About Me

Fusing the sounds of funk, jazz and rock throughout original compositions, Spotus (that's spoh-tus) has been known, since its inception in December of 2003, to intrigue, capture your imagination, and keep you on your feet. As a three piece band with Kurt Wewer as the band leader, director, and composer on guitar and vocals, this group of musicians has been able to interpret all of his compositions to a T, all the while contributing all of their own personal influences, and in turn creating a completely original sound, and a live experience unlike any other.
According to B.W. Smith of the Fly Magazine; "This music is tightly composed and upbeat. The members of the band groove into their instruments. All but avoiding eye contact, they communicate with their ears. The stage is their home."
The instrumentation (guitar, bass, drums) consistently creates a full, multi-layered sound that twists and turns through all the movements that comprise each composition, pleasing the ear of any fan of jazz-guitar based rock, sometimes letting loose into improvised portions that can wind up just about anywhere, even satisfying the ears of the heavy jazz listeners, or even the jam band lover.
"(Spotus') sound is completely unique, and labeling it is a little precarious. If you want to call it an upbeat fusion jazz quintet, you could get away with it. If you wanted to call it a jam band, you could get away with it, too. You can call them whatever you want to, but if you happen to run into the band, call them Spotus. That is who they are, and that is what they sound like." (B.W. Smith of the Fly Magazine)Spotus has performed in front of thousands at summer festivals on the east coast, and in front of large, and small intimate crowds at pubs, breweries, clubs, bars, and other venues around their home base in central PA and as often as possible throughout PA, MD, NJ, and NY.
Bootlegs of live shows are currently in circulation, and most are available upon request from the band. SpotusUnkmeyer.com has several shows in Mp3 format, and videos as well.
Free downloads of 5 of Spotus' shows are available at Archive.Org .
