"Heart of Now" concerns a young woman (Marion Kerr) with a profound longing for a sense of family. Devastated by her boyfriend's sudden withdrawal from their relationship, Amber's circumstance thrusts her back into the presence of the father-figure (Kelly McCracken) that abandoned her and her dying mother nearly a decade ago...
Using the screenplay as a guide, the filmmakers and principal cast will collaborate to organically shape the characters during the rehearsal period. We endeavor to explore the story "in the moment" through guided improvisations. This motion picture will explore relevant principles of humanism and spirituality across a contrast of urban, natural and emotional landscapes. Amber will confront the deeper issues at the very heart of her suffering, and find transcendence in a brief moment at the very heart of now.

FILMMAKER'S STATEMENT
On "Heart of Now", the process began with the screenplay. The words were treated as a guide. They were there to inform, to spark discussion, to provide a point of departure for the characters' natural evolution.
We followed our creative intuition to prepare for the journey, but still, had plenty of "mystery" left to discover on set. With our attention very much present to the humanity of these characters, we began to shed light on their brokenness, understanding a bit more of that mystery each day.
It fell to the crew and I to provide a safe, nurturing environment for the actors to explore the hopes, longing and loneliness of their characters – so we could capture the humanity truthfully and without judgement. And finally, it resided with all of us to ask if we could go deeper, if there was more for us to explore, so that we could walk away with an understanding that none of us could have discovered alone.
Our hope is for an audience to find relevance in these seemingly mundane events, to engage with these characters and for this story to resonate in some meaningful and unexpected ways.
