After competing for four months, Melissa has won the Grand Prize of $10,000 in the national talent competition FAMECAST (www.famecast.com) held in the "Live Music Capitol of the World," Austin, Texas.
Following her win, Melissa will be conducting a promotional press tour in both Texas and California during the months of May, June and July 2007. She will also be featured in the Orange County Register May 18th, where an article has been written about her blossoming career and her recent win!
Melissa has been recording and singing professionally since the age of 13. Melissa is currently working with well-known producer/songwriter Kevin "K Flow" Flournoy on this pop and R & B album. Kevin has been working in the industry for nearly 20 years with such legendary acts as Gladys Knight, The Pointer Sisters, Ronnie Laws, and Donnie Osmond. In addition, Melissa worked with well-known celebrity vocal coach Doc Holliday during her final vocal recording sessions at Westlake Studios. Once the album is completed, the next step is to distribute the songs nationally and internationally. Three of the songs on this new original pop and R & B album are written by Melissa, one of them in Spanish.
There are many acclaimed musicians playing on the album, some of which
include Kat Dyson (Prince, Cyndi Lauper), Alex Al (Stevie Wonder,
Luther Vandross), Michael Ripoll (Kirk Whalum, Yolanda Adams), Morris
O'Connor (Stevie Wonder, Teena Marie), Frank Vilardi (Celine Dion,
Rod Stewart), and several members of the Seattle Symphony.
Melissa enjoys many different types of music but has been most strongly influenced by contemporary R & B, Soul, Motown music, and the amazing talents of singers Donny Hathaway, Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder. Some of her other favorite artists include: Maxwell, Musiq Soulchild, James Ingram, Michael MacDonald, Faith Evans, Eric Benet, Michael Bolton, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Kelly Clarkson, Billy Joel, Elliott Yamin, Brian McKnight, Gavin Degraw, Coldplay, Faith Evans, Celine Dion, Robin Thicke, Amos Lee, Christina Aguilera, Jagged Edge, Usher, Jodeci/ KC and Jojo, Justin Timberlake, India Arie, Boyz II Men, Pink and Michael Buble.
