I'm especially fond of horror , the nastier the better ! ( how do you spell gory - er ? )
An old fave of mine is The Evil Dead . . . ..which I first got to see when I was around the age of five, now I know this may sound like a load of old shizzle but on that fatefull night I was supposed to watch a scary film , a normal / kids adventure film and a funy film .
I should make a point and say that I was staying at a ladies house which my old man (Dad) was dating at the time and I was left in the capable hands of her son and his mate who were about fourteen or so at the time ? So off to the video shop it was . . . . . The films hired were
- War games (kids adventure)
- Aeroplane (comedy) And the
- Evil dead (na -aah !) Back at the ranch :- War games , at the time I loved it , young boy manages to kick start a new , third world war etc . . .
. . Great .Then it was on to the EVIL which I got totally drawn in to . . . right up until a scene where by one of the characters has been possessed by a dark force and is reading out some playing cards before they have been dealt , camera now show's the back of said character and displays the fact that they are now a foot or so off the ground and then they turn around to reveal an un-deads face very close up ! Im not really sure of how much more I got to see at the time as I was shortly taken home when my Pop's returned and I never got to see the funny film ! It was'nt until I reached the age of about twenty one or so that I learned of the film being banned in the past and that it was due for a re - release , So wishing to battle my demons I tracked down a copy of my own . At the time I was in a shared house so I watched most things in my room as I had it all hooked up to my stereo , it was a saturday evening and I'd been thinking of watching the film all day but was a little apprehensive as it would look soooo dated and should remain a memory or quite simply I was , ahem . . scared ! Anyway the umming and ahhing went on for a while and it got dark . Armed with a couple of beers and a few smokes I said "What the hell" I did I actually said it , and stuck it in , plugged in my headphones you know all considerate and that , sat back in my office chair and proceeded on . I managed to get past the card scene and was feeling good . . a little too good as I relaxed and got drawn into story , leaning in to get closer to the action when suddenly "Ker - ash " , "Aaah ! " Which then lead to a quite spectacular action which involved me - jolting backward in my chair , spilling beer all down my front (well it was more like over my shoulder ! ) and then pulling my headphones out of the stereo ... which was on about level fourteen which then managed to give me a whole new fright !
I saw this as good oppurtunity for a smoke and took time out to applaude the film for once again catching me out , And so my new love for this film was born !!
An American werewolf in London - My very 1st fovourite film, which definitely had monsters in it ! Pirates of the caribbean not so much the second one all though Im anticipating a cracking third, WRONG !!, Go!, Total recall, Rambo 's, Donnie Darko, Dark crystal, Kingpin, Spiderman 1 + 2, Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, Indiana Jones', Pulp fiction, Fight club, Mystery men, Freddy vs Jason, Ice age,Shanghai noon, Freddy got fingered, Final destination 2, An American psycho, Sponge Bob, Kung Fu Hustle, Have I said The Grudge ? - The Grudge, etc etc !
