God (or an anthropomorphic representation of the Creative Source of All Things) ...because I have some questions and comments. Also, a descent, reasonably intelligent woman, who lives in my area, and has a night and weekend work schedule like mine. I think that should be ok, right?
I like Bach's 3-part Inventions, but then I like Tool. I can always listen to ELP or Yes, and I also like SOAD. Three of my favorites, sadly all dead, are Michael Hedges, Jeff Buckley and Kevin Gilbert. William Shatner's Has Been, a collaboration with Ben Folds, is pretty good. King Crimson, especially from around 1980-ish, and Gentle Giant both do nice unconventional music. And you just can't go wrong with the Allman Brothers, so there.
Who didn't love Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead? I've recently gotten into this memory movie kick, so Momento, The Butterfly Effect, Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind, and even Paycheck have my attention. I really got into Waking Life, and from there found two other Richard Linkletter films, Before Sunrise and the sequel, Before Sunset. Maybe a bit sappy, but good mind movies. I also have to admit, I like the Adam Sandler movies I've seen...Happy Gilmore, Mr. Deeds, and others. And, of course, you can't go wrong with almost any Mel Brooks movie.
I am a HUGE Simpsons fan (and btw, The Simpsons is on, not are on.) Love the Comedy Central, almost any stand-up they have, the Daily Show, and even the Colbert Report. I can still watch MASH....go figure. A fair smattering of the cartoon network isn't too bad. And any program involving milk or dairy by-products.
In my youth, I enjoyed the first 5 Dune books. I often recommend the Way of the Peaceful Warrior and The Road Less Travelled. For those in search of metaphysics, I like the Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot, and David Bohm's Wholeness and the Implicate Order. Of course, the Bagavad Gita is always nice for a light read.
