Esquimau
Esquimau
The duo's talents have taken them to the last 32 of the London XFM unsigned competition, beating over 950 other entrants to earn a place in the finals. More recently they came second in TFM's competition for unsigned acts. The pair completed a year out working full time on their music and are currently picking their way through university while still gigging around U.K. 2005 saw the release of their first album, 'Long Stories Short'. The album has been described as melodic, soulful, acoustic music, easily accessible to the wider audience. Revolution described the band as " the best up and coming music act in the North East."
Over the past few years, the group has seen many changes. Growing in size, the line up now includes Tom Mountjoy (Bass), Rhianne Evans (vocal), John Poffley (percussion) and Adam Gedye (piano). These additional people have become what is now known today as Esquimau. This recent spelling change is hoped to distinguish the band from others of the same name.
Esquimau are currently being helped by the CYC 6K Vision Records project, but are looking for professional help in realising their potential and completing themselves as a package that can be promoted. The band has already built a strong fan-base. They are not trying to fit into a particular genre. They just aim to write, what they think are, nice tunes and if it feels warm and fuzzy, it's all good. They re-recorded some aspects of the album in 2006, which they are hoping to promote over the summer at gigs and festivals.
