Sounds Like: References on “Loving Counterclockwise”:
“Smooth vocals and poignant lyrics… Elliott Smith sings the songs of Tom Waits - that's what this reminds me of. It's the best Beatles record you've never heard.”
- Jaron Lowenstein (Evan and Jaron/Aware Records)
“An extremely enjoyable work, rife with Beatle-esque chords and elegantly simple arrangements. Vocalist Dirk Homuth is eminently believable, and the lyrics were obviously penned by someone as literate as he is clever. As a matter of fact, 'The Plural of Yes' is a song I hope to cover at some point. And is the album accessible? It has recently become my 3-year-old's favorite CD!”
- Nathalie Archangel (Recording artist, Astral Records)
“With Dirk Homuth's homespun melodies and Charlie Mason's passionate sense of yearning, Almost Charlie captures the disappointment and questions of love. Particularly on 'Beyond and Above,' their most memorable song, they blend a rich and enticing melody with lyrics that capture the essence of truly loving someone. Everyday themes are explored backwards, forward and sideways, leaving us wanting to explore our own hearts 'counterclockwise.'”
