About Me

Darkmode aka David Dodds first started producing music back in 1998 when he was studying a 2-year course in a BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology. In the 2nd year of his course he produced a CD for his major project, titled, Fish on Bricks. Some of the tracks were produced in his 1st year of the course using the colleges equipment. He used a Kurzweil K2000 synth and an 808 Drum Machine and recorded the tracks down on a 4-track porter studio. His lecturer gave him a referral for his CD as she didnt believe that he produced those tracks himself and said that he might have chosen the wrong profession. This comment made him more determined to pass the course and to make a career in music. After he finished the course he met Paul Smyth aka Suibom Serum during the summer of 2000 at a free party where Paul was playing at. Later on after becoming mates with Paul he gave him a copy of his CD. After listening to it, Paul, who loved it, encouraged him to pass copies of it out to DJs and live artists that played at Fastbreeder and Reverb, 2 techno nights that were being held in Newcastle at the time. After he handed out a load of copies of it out to artists he started getting good feed back from the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Keith Tenniswood, Regis who liked it that much he would listen to it in his car, DJ Bone and Jason Leach (Subhead). It was through Jason that David got one of his tracks from his CD onto the compilation album, The House of Wax, which got good reviews when it came out in March 2002. So being persistent had paid off. Darkmode produced his first release for testin out records in Nov 2005 titled "The Data EP" featuring remixes from Suade - Adapted Vinyl and London based electro producer Keith Tenniswood aka Radioactive Man. It gained great reviews in DJ MAG, M8 Magazine & on littledetroit.net & was on the top 10 playlists of Shelly Parker, DP-6 & it was charted & played by Ben Sims on his Split radio show. It also ended up on the Electro best sellers chart on Juno Download when it eventually got a digital release in Aug 2007. Darkmode is rapidly gaining a name for himself as a producer, DJ & Live Artist as he was top pick in DJ MAG Pick N’ Mix in 2006 for one of his live sets he posted up on their site & he was runner up in IDJ Raw Talent in March 2007 for a mix he sent them. Some of his material has been getting heavy support from Chris Fink, Jon Rundell, Submerge101 & Shelly Parker. He signed to Submerge 101's label Impact Mechanics back in Oct 2007 & appeared on a release with other artists called the Kung Fu EP. The release has gotten so much attention and has gotten so much publicity and play by big acts such as Dave Clarke,Ben Sims,Chris Finke,Judge Jules,Steve Poindexter and many others. This year is set to be an exciting one for Darkmode, with a hint of interest from South London Electro artist, Paul Blackford. With remixes & a release on Paul's label Bass Gun Records in the Spring. Darkmode has played along side established artists such as Radioactive Man, Ben Long, Phil Kieran, Marco Bailey & Ignition Technician.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
