Fire Queen

I took a deep breath and listened to the old bray of my heart. I am. I am. I am. - Sylvia Plath

About Me

Prologue
I have spent my life on the outside, constantly looking in. I do not belong to any particular group but have managed to float graciously between groups whether it be the socialites, the fabulous, the party girls, the frat boys, the marrieds, the singletons, and the intellectually stimulating. This however has been not only a marvel but a curse. I do not belong to the club but am an acknowledge extraordinary and fabulous outsider. This is the story of my life. A plethora of acquaintances, very few true friends. The advantage to this is truly remarkable. As my career motivated husband moves from town to city, city to social hierarchy, my position in observation and then confidant allows for the greatest of entertainment. I in no way wish anyone harm or wish to benefit from their misery. This to me is not at all amusing. What does amuse me is the day to day life. No matter where we live, there are the same people. Everyone has the same set of issues, everyone is attempting to make it through this world intact. The differences between these people is revealed in how they behave when no one is watching, how they dance in the aisles at Wal-Mart, how they puff up, flatten, straighten, or volumize their hair according to the local beauty queen. We are all trying so hard to belong. We are all walking around pretending to be what we think others want us to be. We are denying the essence of who we really are. But if you look closely, when you least expect it, people will reveal their true identities and their need to belong to a assemblage, to a crowd, to a people. I wander aimlessly among these extraterrestrial beings known as small town Americans. I know they will treat me cordially. I know they will treat me with decorum and congeniality. I will, however, never belong. I am the self proclaimed small town pseudo-socialite, observation interloper.
Am I not pretty enough?

For Jack Tymon
by Scott Miller

May your back be straight and your fingers ten. My your cup be full when you say when. May your parents be so that they always let you grow. And may your heart be so pure its one that God wants to know.May your schooling be good, and if its not May the times be easy and you still smart. May your friendships be so that they almost feel like home And your heart be so pure its one that God wants to know. And may you have the joy of passing something on Like the laugh of your father or the courage of your mom. But if that never happens and you end up alone May your heart be so pure its one that God wants to know.
