I'd like to meet:
Bob Barker. Seriously, I want to be on the Price Is Right before it is all said and done. I don't really care if I win or lose, it's just something that I want to do.Update: I still wanna meet Bob Barker, hopefully in a fight to the death Kung-fu battle...and I still wanna be on the Price Is Right, but I can take or leave Drew. I know, I know, he's almost part of the hometown team, but he mumbles too much. Bob may have been a sexist, but at least he was an avid animal rights activist...and a Native American!
Music:
My favorite modern band is The Makers. I also like the Greenhornes and of course, The Heartless Bastards and The Lab Partners. I guess, Sonic Youth, Ween, and the Beastie Boys are other contemporary bands that I rarely (Ween being an occasionally exception) am either dissappointed by or get sick of listening to. But, for the most part I just listen to oldies/ garage rock music. The only radio I listen to, other than NPR, is the Little Steven's Underground Garage show and the Christopher Olvis show on WYSO. Dayton's new oldies station is the shiznit too.
Movies:
John Waters is my idol. Ever since I was a tween, I have been making funny movies with my friends, still do, to this day. Every time I work on a picture, I always ask myself, "What would John do." It has never steered me wrong so far. I also adore anything by David Lynch (YES, even Dune), Tarantino, Brat Pack Movies are always a guilty pleasure, Japanese movies like; Rashoman, Versus (Tak is sooooooooooo hot!) and Anime' like Akira and Graveyard of the Fireflies. I love old Spagetti Westerns, Clint Eastwood is the King, but also more obscure titles, like Fistfull of Dinamite (AKA Duck You Sucka) and in the mod/ spy genre, also starring James Coburn , the Flint movies. I should stop, I could apparently go on forever. But seriously, whoever really knows me, knows that I am a serious horror movie junkie. My all time favorite is Night of the Living Dead, but I love pretty much everything Romero just because he is the master of social/ political satire. But chances are, if it is scary I have seen it or at least want to.
Television:
I mostly prefer my television, like my movies, MONSTERS, MONSTERS, MONSTERS! If I don't have early classes, I like to start the day off with The Price Is Right. Occassionally I used to watch Passions, just to see what mischief Tabitha was up to (still missing Timmy...now missing Passions). I love Buffy (all of which which I have on DVD), Charmed, Medium, Supernatural, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the animated Series. My most recent love is Lost. I can't wait for Season 4 in January! I love The Simpsons and The McLaughlin Group, either of which I rarely ever miss ( Sunday Ritual) BYE! BYE!
Books:
This is a tough topic, so I am trying to limit my answer to literature that affected me profoundly. I read Animal Farm in elementary school and it totally changed my life. Later, I read 1984 ironically, while locked in solitary confinement in Juvie. Needless to say, no book has ever had, or do I suspect, will ever again, have that much direct influence on my soul. So beyond a doubt, Orwell runs deep within me and speaks directly to the essence of my soul. If you really want to piss me off use the adjective, "Orwellian," improperly. Other than that, the short list is; Clockwork Orange, 2001, Communion, Owen Meany, The Bell Jar, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Grapes of Wrath, To Kill A Mockingbird, We the Living, Crime and Punishment, Watership Down, Gullivers Travels ....basically most classics, if they are about social issues rather than mindless romanticism. I also enjoy great sci-fi and Horror novels. I am not afraid to admit that I enjoy Clive Barker, Stephen King, and Anne Rice, immensely. My favorite comic books are Yeah and Sailor Moon. I like Archies, Sabrina, but I don't really collect them avidly. I enjoy Crumb, and am proud to say that I adore his wife's work, as well. She is a great inspiration to my own dabblings. Basically, I love anything old and weird. My favorite part is the funny, often sexist ads. I realised a great deal about boys and developed an intimate understanding of the male psyche by studying archaic comic book ads.
