About Me

Mikko Mikkonen is a consummate guitarist and singer who can serve a musical feast to delight any blues and folk aficionado.Since leaving his native Finland a decade ago, Mikko Mikkonen has been living and playing with like-minded musicians across five continents. Through his extensive travels, Mikko has gained a wealth of experience performing and assimilating not only blues and American folk, but also various other genres ranging from gypsy jazz, Mexican, Scandinavian and Brazilian traditions. Incorporating all these experiences and making them his own, Mikko has created a unique mixture of styles and texture which give his music an immediately recognizable flavour of its own. Mikko`s passion is not simply that of a folklorist, but that of a musician interpreting a living, breathing tradition. His interpretations bring a breath of fresh air to these traditions that are far to often treated as museum pieces. When hearing Mikko, you certainly won`t get that impression. His interpretive and improvisational skills- learned from the many travels, destinations and musicians he has experienced, give his music a depth and quality that far surpass the expectations of his audience. Whether playing a Rev. Gary Davis ragtime tune, a Bukka White blues or a Doc Watson flatpicking song, Mikko`s energy and gifted playing will leave no one unmoved. On guitar or National steel, his music is sure take you on a journey through the best of roots blues, ragtime and swing. Mikko now calls Bergen home and has been regularly performing in and around Norway. Mikko Mikkonen is also an active member of the Berlin and Montreal music communities.
