Noam Chopsky, Steven Pinker, James Joyce, Harlan Lane, Michael Stackpole (if you haven't read anything from him, he's brilliant and inventiive: try it out.) Seymour Hersh, Karen Armstrong, Terry Goodkind and George RR Martin. I'm currently reading "The Changing Faces of Jesus by Geza Vermes, re-reading the Song of Fire and Ice saga by George RR Martin, and working slowly through "Comedy Writing Secrets" (2nd Ed.) by Mel Helitzer and Mark Shatz.
