Promoting condom use to prevent sexually tranmitted infections and unintended pregnancy...
Promoting the "Church of Morrissey" and yes, you may call me Reverend. Ask me about attending services ;-)
Catching up on my reading, tivo and netflix, progressive politics and actions, playing and reminiscing with old friends and making memories with new friends, going dancing, talking (a lot), hanging out at bars (coffee and otherwise) and playing with my awesome niece... seen here singing:
If you believe in the rights of everyone to choose who they love, to freely access healthcare - especially the ability to chose whether and when to reproduce, and the rights of all people, no matter where they were born, to live and work and play and take care of each other... oh, and be educated by well-paid teachers offering accurate, comprehensive information not only in math, but in history and sex ed as well... you may fit well in my world. If you don't believe in this stuff - I hope that you are open to it and I can have hope of bringing you around - sometimes that works too.
I support the fundamental right of all consenting adults to fall in love and, if they chose, to marry the person they love.
Now, I've declared my top candidates for the Democratic ticket in '08. I'm looking (hoping, praying, working) for a final team that includes Barack Obama... go join the Obama team at
Why Obama? It's not JUST charisma! Here's another reason:
"A woman's ability to decide how many children to have and when, without interference from the government, is one of the most fundamental rights we possess. It is not just an issue of choice, but equality and opportunity for all women." ~Barack Obama
Oh - I'd also like to meet people who fight like a girl...

This is my neice rockin' the mic with my father - my family is so much cooler than you can imagine!
My Ipod playlist runs the line from Irish folk (some have said too much of it) to off-center stuff from the 80s, 90s and beyond: Dance / Industrial / Goth / Punk / Ska (Depeche, Nitzer Ebb, Bauhaus, Ramones, Bad Religion, Madness), quirky bands of the They Might Be Giants, Cake, Dead Milkmen, King Missle variety, plus singer/songwriters such as Ani DiFranco, Jeff Buckley, Counting Crows, Concrete Blonde. There is my jazz love - Miles Davis in the background with an irish coffee and a friend to chat with is my perfect night. Digable Planets, KRS-One, Arrested Development, Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, and such thoughtful older hip-hop makes me smile and groove. Grateful Dead, Phish, and other hippie-stuff reminds me of my more "colorful" days. These days there's more modern stuff that sounds like throwbacks: The Fratelli's, Dresden Dolls, The Killers, She Wants Revenge, Arctic Monkeys, and Panic! at the Disco, as well as many others... and I'm currently loving such a variety of random things - rediscoving old punk and goth albums I haven't listened to in too long (Milo Goes to College or Catastrophe Ballet anyone?)
...and almost without fail, the Ipod always holds the Rent soundtrack. I'm still such a sucker for a great musical!
I'm so excited for this!!! Also, I love all Muppet Movies... especially for Rolf the Dog! Other favorites include (in no particular order)... American Beauty, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, RENT, Serenity, I Heart Huckabees, the new Reefer Madness musical remake, My Own Private Idaho, The Lost Boys, Saved, any movie Kevin Smith directed (except Jersey Girl, sorry), Fight Club, Dream For An Insomniac, Boondock Saints, Playing By Heart, Bowling For Columbine, Garden State, Office Space, Cohen Brothers flicks, Holiday films from the classics to the timeless to the ridiculous (It's A Wonderful Life to Scrooged to the Hebrew Hammer and Bad Santa), and the list goes on and on and on...
For fiction I always appreciate a great author...
...such as Jeanette Winterson (check out The World and Other Places),
...Tom Robbins (Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates, Another Roadside Attraction, & Jitterbug Perfume are all required reading),
...Chuck Palahniuk has violently gripped my attention with a few of his books (Survivor, Fight Club, Lullabye, and Choke)
...and my book club has introduced me to a few stand out books like Pope Joan and Broken for You
...and youth classics like The Little Prince and Where The Wild Things Are.
For non-fiction I tend more toward contemporary political stuff like George Lacoff or philosphy (I'm trying now to read Hannah Arendt.) I also LOVED Barack Obama's biographical Dreams of My Father.
Anyone who has something worthwhile to say and makes a real effort to say it, but is still honestly able to say "Maybe you're right."
Poets (like Rives seen here) because the ability to put words together in a real and beautiful way makes my knees shake.
