Mend Your Heart With Soldier Thread

About Me

Originally a solo project started by guitarist, pianist, and songwriter Justin McHugh, guitarist and bassist, Todd Abels, was quickly added to the project to create a refreshing duo. Soon after, vocalist and violist Patricia Lynn, along with drummer Drew Van Diver, were added to the mix to complete what has now become The Soldier Thread. The Soldier Thread makes its home in Austin, TX, one of the biggest music capitals in the country.
With a strong love and respect for the great bands of the past including The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and U2, The Soldier Thread aims to recreate a classic sound while simultaneously combining it with a modern, ambient twist. Modern day groups such as The Album Leaf, Flickerstick, Bloc Party, and M83 have a had a profound impact on the continually developing sound of The Soldier Thread.
The music inspires and at the same time provokes the rawest of emotions. In short, it is more than just music, it is a feeling that stays with the listener long after the song has ended. Melodic, ambient, and somewhat transient, the songs tend to reflect the most bittersweet of moods and emotions. Haunting undertones darken the sound, recalling lost loves and the yearning for a more simple, romanticized love. The vocals in turn produce the same feeling as the instrumental, with the dark, melancholic harmonies creating a conflicted duet of the lonely and the beautiful.
With their first E.P./Demo "Fevers and Fireworks" The Soldier Thread has put forth something that is meant to be only a small preview of what's to come. While it has received incredible and much appreciated feedback, The Soldier Thread project is only now getting underway and promises much more in the weeks, months, and years to come.
