Im really open minded about music, life needs a soundtrack!! I like all kinds of music, I like good music, when I was younger I would only listen to hip hop and nothing else, I used to disagree with the likes of m.c. Ice-T when he used to say that people are sad who only listen to one kind of music but since I grew up I realised. In 1988, I was buying everything from Public Enemy, NWA, De La Soul, Jungle Bro's, Jazzy Jeff, Ice-T Cool J & Moe D battling, MC Lyte, GangStarr, Hijack, Hard noise, Leaders of the new school and Caveman to Richie Rich, DJ Fast Eddie, Cold Cut, Bomb the Bass, Beatmasters, Deep Heat dance compilations and listening to Jeff Youngs 'Big Beat Show' and 'National fresh' on Radio 1 (aah, the memories), particularly the mega-mixes (remember dance computer one?). Then in 91' Jeff announced he was leaving Radio 1 with some new bloke taking his slot, it didn't take me long to get into Pete Tong who played more house sounds than rap music, listening to the likes of Chemical bro's, Underworld and The Prodigy from then I quickly got into harder house and trance, going to Gatecrasher, Godskitchen, listening Paul Van Dyke, John Kelly, Mat Hardwick, Scott Bond etc each week, I grew out of that (its too fast for my old body now) and now more dirty house (DC10 4ever) techno, minimal and electro. I also love chillout tunes like Air & Massive attack. Ive always liked old bands like Beatles and Kinks because of my parents and my dad who likes live jazz music and sinatra kinda stuff. When Oasis come on the seen this instantly brought out my interest in Indie music and one of my best mates Jack (The Guild) got me into it all, showing me the real meaning of Indie music. When I 1st saw Zane Lowe in Ibiza (someone else who I usually annoy in Ibiza each year & clubs in Sheffield) and what he does to mix all these kinds of music in a set absolutly blew me away, he then introduced the Kooks on stage in Privilege in 05' & they were awesome, I also listen to Arctic monkeys, Pulp, Starsailer, my mates awesome bands (The Guild and Kelham Crisis, check em' out). These are all the styles I aspire to, I cant play musical instuments but ive been Djing for years and if I could do on the dex what Jam Master Jay (R.I.P), Zane Lowe, Jazzy Jeff, Grandmaster Flash, Terminator X, DJ Andy Smith, Norman Cook, DJ Yoda, Scratch Perverts and produce like Jay Dilla(R.I.P), Dr Dre, Norman Cook, Liam Howlett and many others of my favourites can do, I would be one happy man. (There are so many favourites out there, too many to mention without gettin too borin' (just as borin' as i got, but music is life!) Love, Peace, Hair grease. x
