Band Members: Shari Elf (vocals, guitar, omnichord, xylophone, record player) the Fairy Elf Band includes: Tal Hurley (omnichord, vocals, guitar, xylophone), Carol Ann (bass, Carol Ann is in everyone's band in the desert and we think she's the best!) Sometimes Bobby Furgo plays fiddle and keyboards and Bingo sometimes plays his banjo and glochenspiel with us. Nico LeMoal-Polumbo (sewing machine and percussion), sometimes Ted Quinn (vocals) and sometimes Randy Polumbo (roady and sewing machine support) and anyone else who wants to crash the stage.... ............................................................
...............................Shari and the All Star Seamstress Band from Kansas City includes: Rick Espe (bass and recorder), Ingerlene and Ben (trumpet, sewing machine, vocals, drums, xylophone), Jered Solace (accordion, trumpet, sewing machine, vocals, and Jered can play all of those instruments at the same time!); Adam on drums (one of these days I'm going to remember Adam's last name)
Influences: I love the bands of the Joshua Tree area in California, where I am currently living: The Thrift Store All Stars (of which I am sometimes a stage-crashing vocalist), Ted Quinn, Bingo's Dream Band, Victoria Williams, Bartender's Bible, the Golden Hill Ramblers, Gram Rabbit, Tim Easton, The Sibleys, The Clouds, Krissie Gregory (Harmondale)...Non-local singers and bands I like are the Handsome Family, Cher (old Cher, her old covers with Sonny like "needles and pins" I guess cuz i'm a seamstress), my brother Mike's band the Boosters, Leonard Cohen...Bob Dylan, Ethyl Merman (did you know Bob Dylan and Ethyl Merman both
had the same original last name of "Zimmerman"? Wouldn't that be funny if
they were related and called each other up and swapped songs. I'd like to
hear Bob sing "There's no business like show business" and I'd like to
hear Ethel sing "It Aint Me Babe..", "NO NO NO it aint me, Babe)............R. Stevie Moore, Grandaddy, Irwin Chusid's radio show at WFMU, Terrace Park Choir and Percussion Ensemble, Matt Venuti and the Venusians, Milo Ippolito, Hall and Oates
(sometimes I jokingly say I have "the Hall and Oats" look in the morning),
Randy the Banjo Ghost in Kansas City, Carolyn Fredrick, (most of my
favorite bands are my friends), Eckarte Tolle (he is a rock star to me),
Daniel Johnston, Rolf Harris (toast!), BJ Snowden......Everyone on the Shari Elf Tribute Album.....And some of my favorite music happens in unexpected moments like when I hear someone singing in their car or walking down the street
