Stevie Wonder, Stevie Wonder, Stevie Wonder. Did I say Stevie Wonder? Okay, I'm a Stevie Wonder FANATIC! I enjoy Gospel, Jazz, and old school R/B.A few of my favorite musicians who are very close and dear to my heart are: My "baby girl" Ms. TIJAY (CHOSEN) STAAR an awesome songwriter and vocalist; Mr. LLOYD GREGORY! my brother and "music therapist" the baddest guitarist I know!! Excuse me if I boast- - but I LOVE my peeps!! You will too- - check them out.I also adore Tonex; Donnie McClurkin; Yolanda Adams, and Diane Schuur. Add to the list Tramaine Hawkins, Sunny Hawkins, Sandi Patti; Martha Munnizzi (Sp?); ; Frank McComb; Gladys Knight; Brian McKnight; India Arie; and the list goes on and on.I was also a huge fan of gospel singer, Danniebelle Hall, during her lifetime, and still am. Oh! and don't forget the Clark Sisters!!!I was just reminded of someone whose vocals I discovered when we were both teeny boppers, and whom I had the privilege to follow throughout various churches and musical venues around the S.F. East Bay and that is the unduplicable (is that a word?) Mr. Daryl Coley! There's none like him. I have two CD's by him and Yolanda from the early 90's which shouldn't even play anymore because I played them 24/7 for monthis on end during a very difficult time in my life. Also during that time I drove 60+ miles with my last $10.00 to hear him sing/minister. It was worth it!
Not a huge movie fan. However it just occurred to me today that one of my favorite movies from days past was "Claudine" with James Earl Jones & Diahann Carrol; and that awesome soundtrack by Gladys Knight and Curtis Mayfield! I wore that little cassette tape OUT!Does anyone have a copy of either of those?!The last two movies I went to a theatre to see were those of Tyler Perry- - that's my boy! And now it's time to go check out the new one! You go T.P.! (:
Don't watch a lot of TV.I have enjoyed episodes of Soul Food and Girlfriends but don't see them on a regular basis. Use to be a faithful ER viewer, but it's been a while. I recently looked and saw that it's still on. I enjoy watching Bill Cosby reruns and "Soul Train Classics".Then on Sunday mornings T.D. Jakes and Joel Osteen, Video Gospel, and Lift Every Voice.
Too many to name. The most recent ones I've read and enjoyed were: "How To Get What You Want..." by John Gray; and "Navigating Your Way Through Difficult Transitions".Others I've also read and enjoyed were: "Even As Your Soul Prospers" (Thomas Weeks III); "It's Not Over Until You Win" (Les Brown); "What's Really Holding You Back" (Valorie Burton) and "Pour Your Heart Into It" (? Schultz) and "In The Meantime" (Iyanla Vanzant).Speaking of books, audio books have become a big thing these days, and generally my "A.D.D." gets in the way of my benefitting from audio messages. However I must add to my "favorites", listening to audio tapes by "Ms. Mamie Brown's Baby Boy" and my Pride & Joy (: Mr. Les Brown! I can listen to this man day and night over and over again- -and that's extremely rare.He is truly gifted (and "touched") (:
Ernestine Cleveland Reems-Dickerson, Clara Moore, and Evelyn Jackson, women who've each taught me the beauty and power of being a woman who's "walked the walk" and not just talked the talk of being women of God. I don't know what my life would have been like without them in it.Additionally, women who've had a major impact in my life, thinking, and goals, are Marion Wright Edelman; Marva Collins; and Maya Angelou. These women have been pace setters in their contributions to society as a whole and specifically to African-Americans and youth. I dream of leaving a legacy as great as they will.
