As a songwriter Damon Williams was honored as a finalist in Onstage Magazine's 2001 Unisong International Songwriter's Contest. The original composition he submitted, "Pray for Eyes that See", was co-written and produced by Rodney Skipworth of the R&B duo Skipworth & Turner whose 1985 dance hit, "Thinking About Your Love" took the number one spot on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.Damon Williams believes in using his talent for community awareness. In response to the disappearance of Xiana Fairchild on her way to school in December 1999, Williams wrote the song, "Rachel's Weeping For Her Children" with ConFunkShun band member Danny Thomas. Produced by Williams and Thomas, "Rachel" was featured on a CD dedicated to Xiana who was tragically found to have been kidnapped and murdered.Williams performed the song for at every vigil throughout the search for the seven year old girl, plus numerous anti-violence rallies and even an appearance on Cable Channel 28 in El Cerrito. "I can think of no better reason to open my mouth and sing," he explains.Williams is also an aspiring actor, performing in local community theater. He made his acting debut in the title role of 'Purlie Victorious' at the Mira Theatre for which he won the 2001 Dollie award for Best Male Leading Actor in 2001. Since then Williams has been nominated four times for local Arty Awards and received a second Dollie for his role in "Blues for An Alabama Sky." He has also appeared in "Ceremonies in Dark Old Men," "Prophet Nat," "The Wedding," "Mulatto," and recently in "Murder Dressed in Satin.Damon has joined Vallejo's community radio station, Ozcat Radio 1670 AM as the host of his own radio show, "Walking The Musical Landscape with The Nomad". The show airs live each Wednesday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. from Vallejo, California to the known world on www.ozcatradio.com.
