With her own combination of deft guitar work, stunning original composition, and crystal-clear vocals, this Skinny White Chick garners frequent comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Ani Difranco, Tori Amos, and Jeff Buckley. Reviewers describe S. J.’s sound as “Celtic Blues, folk rock full of fire†(Green Man Review) and state that she delivers “a surprisingly energetic set†(Playback St. Louis). In a fine bit of press, smother.net said of her second album, Tangles, Singer/songwriters, take note--this is what you should be doing and how you should sound.
This year, amidst the whirlwind of her travels, S. J. hopes to get lots of work done for a long list of musical projects, including an album specifically for Pirate Girls, an album of electronic music, and an album filled with songs of wild beasts and spirits of Mischief. Stay tuned to her blog here on Myspace for updates and news!
S. J. often combines Skinny White Chick performances with a similarly enchanting endeavor known as Fire & Strings, a collaborative project between Tucker and fire artist/acrobat Kevin K Wiley. Fire & Strings tours alongside Skinny White Chick quite often, dazzling audiences through a fusing of fire play and improvisational music. Tucker accompanies Wiley’s fire play on a myriad of instruments or spins fire poi and staff along with Wiley, serving up exciting dance music of her own to accompany and inspire them both. Fire & Strings has performed to delighted crowds since its ignition, undertaking shows nationwide, and is fondly called cutting-edge by colleagues and friends in the firespinning community. Fully-insured, sensible and safe pyrophiliacs, Fire & Strings serve the muses and honor with their talents the truest passions in the known universe: song and flame. For a taste of this fire and passion, and an earful of some of S. J.'s newest electronic mixes, visit Fire & Strings here on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/firestrings
