About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 About Bob Cenci: Bob played guitar with Boston Hardcore legend Jerrys Kids as well as recently joining forces with Gang Green. In addition, Bob was a pioneer bringing solo acoustic sets to the punk rock world back in the eighties and through out the years has fronted a number of bands: the Rockin' Bob Cats; Hellcats from Outer Space; X-15 and the Chubs. In High School he started his first band called 'the Insex' and recorded to a tape deck in the Garage.. Three chord rock for the most part, at this time the fastest recording known had been the Ramones 'It's Alive' double album which had been influential to ambition. The band started when Bob made a deal with classmate Rick Jones that if he learn how to play the bass, Bob would learn guitar. They bought a couple of the first Crate Amps (wooden) and turned all the knobs up as far as it would go and blasted the sound while learning their instruments and soon after to play at High School Parties. The High School kids thought it was a bunch of noise and had been more into Van Halen and Bruce.. which didn’t change punk intentions.. Rather Bob and Rick had been open to obscurity and influenced by local rising Boston Bands like the Neighborhoods, LaPeste and the Outlets, who had been considered punk then, and soon after the first wave of Hardcore 81 made a lasting impact which had been coming in from all sides: UK, LA and DC. Probably the most influencial bands to Jerry's Kids early on had been Discharge, Black Flag and the Bad Brains. After losing their 'Insex' drummer, Bob and Rick joined forces with another Braintree garage band called the X-men which included Rick's younger brother Bryan Jones, Brian Betzger and Dave Aronson to form Jerry's Kids. Initially, Bob wanted to call the band Gang Green but was out voted. Bob then donated the name to eager neighbors: Chris Doherty, Bill Manley and Mike Dean.. who later that day bought a case of green spray paint and literally painted the town, the subway, and Boston green.. Jerry's Kids first gig was w/ Gang Green in Bob's basement; when Bob's father got home, he couldn’t believe the racket but let it continue as he ran out the door. Bob remembers one day when Chris Doherty called him up with a new song called 'Snob'; he could not believe the speed and just heard the pick mostly blazing across the strings, to him it sounded like baseball cards on bicycle spokes. After that phone call, and the recognition that was Gang Green, Jerry's Kids needed to and began to pick up the pace... Both bands started to play around Boston, Cantones, the Media Workshop, the Gallery East, and the Mill Hill Club on Cape Cod (1982..) A year later, Sunday All Ages shows began to be a weekly event at the Channel.. Also that year Dave Aronson left the band because of his girlfriend and Gang Green broke up because Mike Dean had joined the Marines. Jerry's Kids soon recruited Chris Doherty to help burn the blaze. Many All Ages shows...when it was safe to dive off the stage.. Jerry’s Kids first phase seemed short lived from 1982-1984.. During this time Jerry's Kids recorded three sessions: "This is Boston Not LA"; "Trained to Kill" (never released) and "Is This My World?".. Also changes in members occurred, the original line up, Bryan Jones (vocals) Brian Betzger (drums) Dave Aronson (guitar) Rick Jones (bass) and Bob Cenci (guitar)... After "This is Boston Not LA", because of parental control, Bryan Jones had to leave the band. Rick his older brother then took over vocal duties which seemed to be appropriate because Rick wrote the bulk of the songs, however, Bob was always broadened the core of the songs with his guitar parts and as producing few gems. About 6 months after "This is Boston Not LA" Jerry's Kids recorded "Trained to Kill" 6 or 7 tracks in all and released "Tear It Up" as a Radio Tape.. After these sessions, Dave Aronson left the Band because of troubles with his mother and girlfriend at the time. Dave had been replaced by Chris Doherty from Gang Green who had recently been disbanded when Mike Dean, Gang Green drummer, had joined the Marines. 1983 had probably been the best line up for Jerry's Kids.. Rick Jones with his discharge like onslaught book ended by the feverish blaze of Bob Cenci and Chris Doherty, all driven by the precision and complexity of Brian Betzger's drumming.
