About Me

Chris Taggart [a.k.a. Piss] has been popping since 1979. He was first influenced by the Pantomimes and popping groups that performed at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. His first 4 years of popping were during a time he calls the "Robotcentic Era" (1976-82, late 1983). This was before break dancing hit the Bay Area shores. This was a very mechanical time for dance in Northern California. Farm towns like Fresno, Stockton, Tulare, Hollister, Kerman, Firebaugh, Madera, Oakley, Brentwood and Modesto all had their own styles of popping. All the dances were very funky and robotic, yet all were very distinct from one another. But something happened and by October 1983, all the poppers started break-dancing and all of the popping styles created by those kids were forgotten. Only groups like Demons of the Mind and the Electric Boogaloos were smart enough to document their history.
Piss walked into this "Age of the Break Dancer" (1983 to early 1985), staying true to his way of popping, making him a minority in the dance community to this day. By age 13 he started a dance crew, Main Street Poppers/Breakers, and later became a member of an all-star popping/breaking crew, Street Wizards, out of Antioch, California. By age 14, he was well known in Bay Area battle circles and was able to compete with people much older. His love for the dance made him a laughing stock every time he went out dancing after 1985 because he continued to pop long after it was the "cool" thing to do.
He is now 33 and continues to compete, perform and teach all over the Bay Area. He has taught one-on-one lessons to adults and kids as well as at various schools such as Roosevelt Junior High in Oakland, as well as in Albany at Ocean View Elementary, Albany High School, and McGregor High School. He enjoys passing down what he has learned in the past 25 years and is thankful for the opportunity to teach.
