We am, is, are and be they whom as are known as the Torsten Hempelt

About Me

"Ich liebe die Menschheit! Ich kann nur Leute nicht ausstehen."
- Linus van Pelt.
I find that above sentence once uttered by my quasi-semi-namesake Linus van Pelt to be very true, and startlingly often so.
Yes, I, Torsten from (well, IN) Berlin, do love (hu)mankind. It's just people, I can't stand! And on days like these, it's also the weather I can't stand. But apart from that I'm a happy family. Really!
I'm quite glad to live in a world which has at one time or another played (a sometimes somewhat hostile) host to people and things such as The Ramones , music in general and especially on VINYL records, Erdnussflips und Kartoffelchüps, Fugazi, the mighty dog Ramses (R.I.P), John Peel (R.I.P., too), Monkeys , Pizza, Oliver Hottenrott , Mexican Food, radio eins , Gin Tonic, ALL , a film called "The Sure Thing" , dark chocolate filled with Chili (no shit!), ALF, Mary Lou Lord, water to swim in and even drink, Jalapeños , Hans Clarin & Günter Pfitzmann als Asterix & Obelix ,Berlin in the Summer , Woody Allen , T-Shirts with band names on 'em , New York , Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Joey Ramone (R.I.P., three) (yeah, I know I mentioned the Ramones before - and might even do so again later on. But JOEY RAMONE !), The Simpsons, Kim Deal , Marzipankartoffeln , Jonathan Richman , Malai Kofta, "Little Miss Sunshine", Sesambrötchen... I will continue this list when I... will. For now all I will say is welcome to my little bonfire of vanities here on, ähem, mywasteofspace.COM!
Sincerely, Torsten "Pelt Sematary" Hempelt

Jesus, Satan, Gene Beeman, His Car, And Pizza Hut

by SCOTT REYNOLDS & THE STEAMING BEAST
Jesus met Gene Beeman coming out of the laundry-mat.
And he said, “Kid you look like shit!”
And Gene said, “Imagine that!
Got a life like day old oatmeal, mostly lumpy and always cold.”
And Christ said, “Gene, what do you mean?”
And Gene said, “I just feel so old!”
“Well put your hand in mine, and let us pray.”
“Lord I’ve got no time, but thank you anyway.”
“Well don’t you know my father loves you?
And you used to love him too.”
Gene said, “Yeah I remember your dad
and I somehow doubt that’s true.
‘Cause our lives wind up so tragic.
We die too young or we hang on too long.
And I’ve read your text about what comes next,
and I think it’s probably wrong.”
“Son don’t you know who you’re talking to?”
“Well, Jesus Christ! Of course I do!”
Gene Beeman’s green Granada smells like burning oil
and tick tick ticks like a clock.
He’s got time to find a lot of things to not believe,
now that he has to walk
Well old Satan met Gene in between the bank and the Pizza Hut.
And he said, “Listen! I can make you rich!”
And Gene said, “So fuckin’ what?
What’s a million zillion dollars
when I can’t see the skin for the scar?
But I’ll tell you what. That there Pizza Hut has go a kick ass salad bar!”
And so off he went. He left Old Scratch to scratch alone.
He got a doctor pepper and a mushroom Pizzone.
Those seats are real fake leather.
The paint is forest green, blue quarter panel front drivers side.
Gene dreams about forever, and why there’s no such thing, now he ain’t got no ride.

[Seems like a blown head gasket!]
Gene Beeman’s green Granada smells like burning oil
and it ticks like a clock.
He’s got time to find a lot of shit to don’t believe,
now that he has to walk.
Well, Jesus met Gene once again, this time at the Radio Shack.
And he said, “Gene you still look mean.”
And Gene said, “Yeah, I know.
I shoulda’ taken that money from the Devil.”
[Lyrics by Scott Reynolds]
Hey, and if anyone out there has a Victory At Sea shirt, size large, and would be willing to sell it to me - pleeeease get in touch!!! I freakin' love that band!

My Interests

)) (( forever...

No, seriously:

Music*, food & stuff

* my own music can be found here , or by simply clicking on the "other" Pelt Sematary* down in the friends section!
Ch-ch-check it out!

I'd like to meet:

Ramses, Joey, John Peel.
Yeah, I know. Tough luck, chicken butt...
More realistically - John Cusack , Carrie Brownstein & Kim Deal

And if I had a choice I'd like to live in this song: Shocker In Gloomtown as performed by the Breeders (written by Bob Pollard from Guided By Voices. He's in the video, too, you know).

Music:

I guess it all really boils down to the Ramones , cause they hit me like a Blitzkrieg with their Bop and Hop when I was just a kid.
Another one of my ALLtime Faves is a band called ALL , which in my dictionary includes the Descendents and also Goodbye Harry !
My favorite ALLbum, by the way, is "Allroy's Revenge !
Sadly it seems that neither ALL nor the Descendents are very active theses days. But - former ALL-singer Scott Reynolds teamed up with hopefully-still-ALL-guitarist extraordinaire Stephen Egerton recently, to record a couple songs. And their "Sunny Disposition" never fails to make me smile. Whew! More, pleeze!
A band that touches my brain and heart in equal amounts are the amazing Fugazi , even though I'm not sure they're still going. It's been a long time since their last album, and in the meantime most of their members have done other things. Ian MacKaye, for example, is in the Evens , with Amy Farina, and Joe Lally , Fugazi's bass player is doing solo stuff. I don't know what Guy Picciotto , is doing, but the drummer Brendan Canty , is making interesting DVDs!
Some of the most beautiful music I can imagine comes from a lady named Mary Lou Lord .
Donnerwetter, who would have thought? Apparently not me for a while - I just found another favorite band of mine on myspace... The mighty Action Patrol . Not one bad song they have on their three records - two 7"es and an album (yeah, and a live cd). Their "heavycore with sing like chicken" was an important part of my eary twenties soundtrack... Still love it!
I used to be a huge fan of Dinosaur jr. , but to be honest, I'm not so sure about that these days...
It's always fun to check out Lou Barlow 's homepage, though!
One of the bands of the year 2006 undoubtedly - to me - were the New York Dolls .
I got to see them three times (New York - CBGB!, Hamburg & Berlin) and every time was awesome...
...and there will probably always be a place in my heart for Jonathan Richman !
Here are some other bands and musicians I like a lot:
Sleater-Kinney
Eels
Jurassic 5
The amazing Dr. Teeth & Electric Mayhem
Deerhoof
Trio
Halo Benders
Elliott Smith
Lassie Singers
Nilsson
Hüsker Dü ,
The Flaming Lips
Françoise Hardy
Shellac
(although I gotta say that this refers mostly to the amazing first two 7"es and "At Action Park". "Terraform" was ok, but "1000 Hurts" - I don't know... Let's see what the next one - dropping soon, supposedly - will be like!)
Jets To Brazil (yes, I like them even more than Jawbreaker, duh!)
Melt-Banana
The Geraldine Fibbers
Daniel Johnston
Breeders
Misfits
(we're talking pre-1983, Anzalone style Misfits here, Dood!)
Cake
L7
I used to really like the
Hard-Ons
in the early Nineties...
Black Flag
I've been enjoying listening to Laura Nyro a lot, recently
Slayer
Victory At Sea
Victoria Williams
Op Ivy/Rancid
Watt stuff - fIREHOSE, minutemen, DOS & solo!
X-Ray Spex
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Uh, I'm pretty sure there's more to come. Gotta do other stuff now!
