Black Shard Studios (originally Black Shard Entertainment) was formed in 1996, originally for the purpose of creating computer games. Unfortunately, it was about this time that video games were being recognized as a lucrative business into which one could pour virtually unlimited amounts of money, and a graphical revolution was taking place. As reality quickly squelched all hope of creating a viable start-up in the gaming business, the group dwindled from its original five members to three in 1998, and then all but vanished by 1999, taking its sole creative endeavor to the grave with it.
Since that time, there has been a revolution of a different kind in cinema. As digital technology has gotten more and more powerful, digital video has brought many of the tools of filmmaking within the reach of the average person.
By 2001, Black Shard Studios has been reborn as a video production house and special effects studio. The studio has created effects for Dreamstalker Films, and Waking Planet Studios, and assisted in creating a half-hour feature and three short films. Several more projects are currently in the works.
