Band Members: The Music Of Joey Altruda features a variety of musicians depending upon the context. He has been known for his work with Don"Sugarcane"Harris during the early to mid eighties in the band Tupelo Chain Sex. From 1989-1999 he co-led Jump With Joey along with drummer Willie McNeil. The band made 4 C.D.s-three were released on Rykodisc and the fourth on Lakeshore Records. JWJ personnel includes Mike Boito-piano;Elliot Caine-trumpet;David Ralicke-trombone;Bill Ungerman/Jim Akimoto-tenor sax. In 1993 the band relesed "Strictly For You Vol. II" which features Roland Alphonso of Skatalites fame. It was co-produced by Joey with the godfather of all Jamaican producers, Clement "Sir Coxsone" Dodd (of Studio One). His solo CDs "Cocktails With Joey" and "Kingston Cocktail" (Lakeshore Records) have enjoyed international acclaim and feature the likes of legendary tenor man Plas Johnson (of Pink Panther fame) and Jamaican guitar genius Ernest Ranglin(on Kinston Cocktail only). Altruda has been known to work with a plethora of musical greats over the years-Levi Dexter, Don & Dewey, Bo Diddley, Joe Strummer, Rico Rodriguez, Leo Nocentelli & Zig Modeliste (the Meters), Lloyd Knibbs(SKatalites), Jack Costanzo, Ernie Andrews, El Gran Fellove, Mongo Santamaria, Chocolate Armenteros, Candido Cameron, Patato Valdez, and many others. He has led a full Afro Cuban big band in recent years called the Mambo Noir Orchestra. His current band-Classic Riddims plays Ska, Roscksteady, Reggae, & Dub. The band features members of Macy Grey's band, Breakestra, Antibalas,Jump With Joey, etc. with guest vocalists Alex Dessert & Deston Berry (of Hepcat) and Persephone Laird (of Ocean 11)
