About Me

One good thing about being a couple of weeks behind in my friend requests is most of the spam profiles have been deleted by the time I get to them. Saves me from having to read three identical profiles telling me to check out her other site where they allow nudes. Anyway, if you send me a request, be patient. I'll get to you. And I am starting to catch up.
You should probably skip to the last paragraph of this bio, and just listen to all the music I have posted. The bio is boring, and the music is good.
Still reading? Well, you must be up late at night looking to cure your insomnia. Better quit listening to the music, before it keeps you up for the rest of the night.
I've been playing guitar since summer of 1983. I started playing slide about ten years later. Most of that time was spent playing at home, jamming with my dad, going to song circles and Bluegrass jams, occasionally playing at my parents' church. During that time I rarely played formal shows where I was on stage and the audience was distinctly separated from me. You would be just as likely to see me on stage as one member of my high school or college choir, as you would see me playing guitar. I finally got around to doing more of those formal shows on the guitar in the late 90's.
Right around the same time (maybe 1999), I started playing with the Mythic Figs. I also returned to playing the clarinet, which I had played very poorly for a few years as a child. I've been playing a lot of five-string banjo in the last year or two, and somewhere along the line I've figured out how to make a little bit of music on various other instruments including Autoharp, mountain dulcimer, bass guitar and saxophone.
"The Spider and the Fly" and "Sing When the Spirit says Sing" were recorded by Jeff Sachs. That's Jeff on the fiddle and bass, and Erin O'Toole on the harmony vocals. "Rosie" and "Red Headed Boy" were recorded by Garrett.

Technique I'm using for "Red Haired Boy"

On the scalar passages of  "Red Haired Boy," I'm alternating stopped strings near the 4th fret with adjacent open strings.  The confusing part is that I'm using the open string to play a low...

Yeah, I know it's standard, and I don't need to say it, but from time to time I'm rotating my top eight in order to spread the wealth of publicity.  All you who were in my top eight: you still my...

So where's the Blues?

I just noticed that I don't have a blues sample up yet.  I list blues as the first style in my profile, but I don't give you a sample.  While you can probably hear the blues influence in the...
