Where music meets a psychologist's dream come true

About Me

Jessica Fogle is a Chicago-based songwriter/pianist/singer (in that order). You can find her playing her songs sometimes at Gallery Cabaret in Bucktown, the Orphanage in Bridgeport, and other neighborhoods that start w/ B. She has also been seen at Schubas, Uncommon Ground, the Grafton, Bill's Blues in Evanston, Abbey Pub, Old Town School of Folk, and elsewhere. Where is elsewhere you say? Only time and transcription will tell. She's been writing songs since she was 2 years old but only came out of the closet a few years ago as a *gasp* "songwriter" ("but honey, you get good grades!). Childhood works include "A Nickle and a Shank," "Shaboopiedoo", and other casio-pop uptempos, and middle school contained many award winning ballads for world peace and children governing. So far, she's taken many different paths--including a career in music directing for musical theatre in NYC and Chicago, studying classical piano, writing musicals (grad school-NYU), and composing scores for film (see www.benjaminstarling.com, or www.speakproduction.com for a few former and current projects). Please visit www.jessicafogle.com for many more cheap recordings and join the mailing list to be kept up-to-date on shows and events! Thanks again for stopping by! ************************************************************ ************** ************************************************************ ************** **************************NEW!!!!!************************** **************** ************************************************************ ************** My songs are now for sale online:-)(weird). 14-tracks, some rough studio cuts, some live recordings, and a few in-home, ...if you come to a show, I take donations ($5 suggested) for a handsketched personal copy. However, I have no way to do that online...so please click on this link for Unsung Hero, you can go there and buy the album piecemeal if you'd like. $1 per track, or $10 for the album (Melancholy Frog).

Music:

Band Website: jessicafogle.com
Influences: MUSIC: The Beatles (John Lennon), Ella Fitzgerald, Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, James Taylor, Damien Rice, Sarah McLachlin, Ditty Bops, Norah Jones, and countless others.SPECIFIC ALBUMS: Abbey Road, Sargeant Pepper, Lost in Space, Liz Phair's whitechocolatespaceegg, Ditty Bops' first album, damien rice's first, many more...BOOKS: The Bell Jar, Girl Interrupted, Eat Pray Love, In Persuasion Nation and anything by George Saunders, Player Piano (and all Vonnegut of course-most recently Bluebeard), Snow White (not the classic, the f*ed up satire), Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein Gertrude Stein (play script), other works of philosophy or spirituality ...was influenced by lots of buddhist/taoist writing in college, also Marcus Aurelius writings...the bible even, and other stuff recently that's helped me clarify purpose/meaning/motives in my life.OTHER WRITERS, COMEDIANS, PEOPLE: Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, Kurt Vonnegut, George Saunders, Steve Martin, more more more...when i try to think of lists, i suddenly go blank.SHOWS: Sesame Street, SNL, Fraggle Rock, anything w/ muppets and songs in it...CLASSICAL: Beethoven and Chopin. Namely the Pathetique Sonata. And most preludes or anything slow and depressing (er, melancholy...weeping, cathartic and cleansing!:-) Also Debussy, Ravel, and as much as I hate to play Bach and other Baroque or pre-Baroque, I love to listen to it. The purity and clarity. Especially Dido and Aeneus.MUSICALS??: I have never seen but love the album of Stop the World I Want to Get Off, by Anthony Newley and other brilliant people. Also I love the Fantasticks. Brilliant. I can cry at any emotional musical, but I don't like writing things that are too over-the-top emotional. Oh, and I love me and Danny's grad school musical Benjamin Starling. (www.benjaminstarling.com). And my own autobiographical musical that I wrote in college, The Believers, that still doesn't have a score. (ah, apathy). Last but not least, my favorite and most formative musicals were probably: The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, maybe Beauty and the Beast...every Disney musical from the mid-80's through mid-90's. My brother and I used to jam out w/ duets on oboe and flute. And piano.MOVIES: (I like to think I'm not girly, but I am.) When Harry Met Sally and almost anything Nora Ephron. Beatles Hard Day's Night and Help. Ack. Listmaking is hard. I revised this cuz my old one was too long. And not quite focused. I thought categories would help. But I'm still just not good at lists. My favorite color is rainbow.
Sounds Like: Norah Jones and Tom Waits raise an illegitimate circus clown as their own.
Type of Label: Indie
