Hey! Hey! Boogie Child, Get On Up and Dance!

About Me

About Chris: MySpace isn't exactly the first place you think of to find children's entertainment, but Chris Hamilton isn't exactly known for doing things the "normal" way.
Chris is a natural performer and entertainer, and a rising star in the world of kids' music. His songs are high-energy, interactive, sing-along, clap-along, get-up-and-dance along fun for all ages!
"I get parents all the time telling me how much they like my music, then they add that their kids love it too," Chris says. He often jokes that he writes his lyrics for children but the music is for the parents. "In truth, I write for myself in a way. I write songs that I know I would've liked when I was 6 or 7 years old. The test is if I like them now, as an adult, then they become part of the show."
Chris is known to Canadian families for his lively concerts that usually have entire families dancing together. However, his recordings have also gathered young fans across Canada and beyond. Sticky Situations, his first kids' CD, was nominated for:
- A Western Canadian Music Award for Outstanding Children's Recording
- 2 Just Plain Folks Music Awards for Best Children's Album and Best Children's Song for My Pet Dragon.
NICK JR. FAMILY MAGAZINE describes Chris' music as "...songs that are as memorable as they are loaded with kids' humor...a party-ready mix."
Chris Hamilton's Sticky Situations CD is now available at Amazon.com Amazon.ca & CDBaby.com

Band Members: You may see Chris performing solo, with his friend Nathan playing bass guitar, or even with a full back-up band "The Sticky Jam Band". Chris plays acoustic and electric guitar in concert but he also rocks out on mandolin on his CDs.
Influences: These amazing individuals, groups, orgainizations, productions and publications all figure somewhere in the back of Chris' mind when he writes his songs:

Jim Henson, Monty Python, Dr. Seuss, MAD Magazine, Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, The Electric Company, Mr. Dressup, The Friendly Giant, Paul Reubens, Looney Tunes, Saturday Night Live, The Marx Brothers, Robert Munsch, Kevin Henkes, The Clumsy Lovers, Danny Elfman, Stompin' Tom Connors, Buddy Holly, The Gruesomes, The Clash, Lenny Bruce, Eddie Cochrane, Marvel & DC, Frank Sinatra, Sergio Aragones, The Dubliners, The Simpsons, George Lucas, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Buster Keaton, Bruce McDonald, Wayne Dyer, Don King, Django Reinhardt, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Brad Bird, pre-1990 Disney movies (and the PIXAR ones), Archie Comics, Johnny Cash, Tim Burton, The Animals, Charles M. Schulz, Jerry Lee Lewis, Nick Park, Joseph Campbell, U2, SCTV, The Kids in the Hall, Violent Femmes, Lorne Michaels, John Williams, Ennio Morricone, The Cramps, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., REM, Bill Watterson, The Paperboys, Stan Lee, Charles Addams, Darren Merinuk, Gary Larson, The Beatles, Ray Charles, Beck, many many other talented folks and countless hours of '70s and '80s Saturday morning cartoons (see also "Sounds Like").
If there are any names you don't recognize in this list, Chris strongly recommends looking them up. Please note: not all of these are necessarily "child-friendly".
Sounds Like: Children's music that doesn't sound like "children's music"
OR
Barenaked Ladies, Ramones, Mojo Nixon, Pogues, Specials, Misfits & Stray Cats all trying to sound like Raffi, Fred Penner, Dan Zanes, Zak Morgan, Ralph's World, Laurie Berkner, Justin Roberts or The Wiggles.
OR
The Muppets jamming with Monty Python. Hmmm..."Muppet Python" perhaps?
