A Miami (Florida) native, Valarie's musical gifts were noticed at the age of 5. At the age of 12, Valarie began her professional singing career and traveled the country with the Grammy-nominated Florida Mass Choir, under the direction of her childhood mentor, Rev. Arthur T. Jones. Valarie entered college and, despite offers to sing secular music, graduated in 1990 from the University of Florida while remaining faithful to her upbringing in gospel music. When asked how she was able to resist the temptation of secular music deals and remain focused on the music of the church, Valarie says, "I refuse to perpetuate the perversion of music, but to advance its original purpose, which is to glorify God and to create an atmosphere of worship for His pleasure." While a college student, she was a lead singer in the gospel choir, she ministered in prisons, nursing homes, on campus and sang special music at the Agape Faith Center Church, pastored by Rev. Ronald R. Thomas. Valarie is a respected singer & songwriter, clinician and attorney. She was licensed & ordained as a minister of the Gospel by Bishop Mack Timberlake, Jr., and founded the Company of Prophets Musicians Fellowship Int'l under his covering. She has been married 17 years to her high school sweetheart, is the mother of 3 small children and operates her own law firm. Although she has many gifts, Valarie is most complete when operating in her gift. She enjoys teaching about music ministry, singing and writing original songs & compositions. She especially loves working with youth and college-age choirs and groups. While in college, Valarie was chosen several times along with veteran national recording artists to teach her original music to a 200+ voice choir of college students at a national college convention. She was honored as the "Most Prolific Young Songwriter" for the convention and applauded for her dynamic 4-6 part choir compositions. As a result of her work, she performed as a college student and presented original pieces before standing-room only crowds at the Georgia Civic Center and the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA. While in college, she either performed with or opened for Donnie McClurkin, Daryl Coley, The Hawkins Family, Vernessa Mitchell, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, John Askew (her dear friend), The Sounds of Blackness, Helena Barrington, Ricky Dilliard, Timothy Wright, Commissioned, Barbara Ward Farmer, Twinkie Clark, Frank Williams, and others. For over 12 years she served as a music leader and psalmist for Bishop Mack & Pastor Brenda Timberlake as a member of Christian Faith Center in Creedmoor, NC. The Lord gave Valarie a vision and heart for teaching and mentoring young people in music, so she started a 125+ voice youth choir that sparked a new & exciting pulse for worship in the church. Her anointed singing was featured throughout the US and the world on the Timberlake's daily ministry telecast. Her melodious voice has prepared the atmosphere for the powerful Word of God and for miracles of healing & deliverance performed by her pastors. While tirelessly serving her local church, Valarie was blessed to sing background and/or open for some of gospel's favorite artists such as Karen Clark Sheard, Fred Hammond, MC Hammer, Angelo & Veronica, Kirk Franklin, Curt Carr & the Curt Carr Singers, Candi Staton, Helen Baylor, Vicki Winans, Inger Reid and others. She's sang on venues with Pastor Creflo Dollar, Archbishop Benson Idahosa, Archbishop Willie & Pastor Glenda Bolden, Pastor Oral Roberts, Bishop Keith Butler, Pastor Harold Ray, Pastor Randy White, Pastor Paul Paino, Mike Murdock and others. She was privileged to collaborate on a special musical project with Mr. T.J. Hemphill, noted playwright and creator of the stage play "Perilous Times," and gifted musician and composer of the song "What Love," recorded by Vickie Winans. More recently, Valarie was a semi-finalist for the Word Network's first Gospel FOCUS competition.A few short months ago, the enemy made an attempt to quiet this anointed psalmist with a flagrant attack on her vocal chords. Unable to talk or sing, she was determined more than ever before to overcome the attack of the enemy and proclaim the Word and will of God through music once again. Since her successful surgery, Valarie has been focused on the total restoration of her vocal range and has set a date to complete her long-awaited debut solo CD for summer 2008. After many years of faithful service to the music ministry of the church, Valarie believes that the time is now for her to record her project. Recently Valarie spoke about her faith to sing again and to record by saying, "I'm one who truly realizes that this gift of Music is not mine, but God's. I purpose to use it to glorify God alone, and the enemy hates that I'm doing what he was created to do - create an atmosphere for worship. I am an atmosphere changer! Satan knows how important this is to God, so if he can't pervert your gift, he'll try to steal or destroy it. But in my life, only God gets the glory -all the time- whether I have my voice like it was before the attack or not! I will sing His praises! I purpose to be in the center of God's Will for my life, and I'm determined to live Holy. I love the Giver more than His gifts. I really love God like crazy, and I'm learning more each day about how much He really loves me, too! If HE means more than life to you, let's be friends!"
