CAREER PROFILE€˜Martin "CHARIOTS" Offiah MBE, is the most famous rugby league player the British game has ever produced. A dazzling runner and lethal finisher, he has scored over 500 tries in his career representing Widnes, Wigan, London Broncos and Salford. Winner of the Lance Todd trophy on two occasions, he is also the only player ever to win the Man of steel trophy in thier very first season of playing the game. Martin has also represented his country many times. He has played Rugby union for the Barbarians, England students, Rosslyn Park, Bedford and London Wasps.Not bad for someone who didn't pick up a rugby ball until he was 11 and had never seen a live rugby league match until he signed for Widnes in 1987 from Rosslyn Park. In an ironic twist Offiah became one of the few southerners to go north to seek his fame and fortune. After winning every honour in the game he returned south to join the London Broncos in 1996, helping to put them, and the game in the south on the sporting map.He has become the greatest name in the rugby league game through his prowess on the field as well as his appearances off it. A regular guest on all the established sporting and quiz shows. He has also shown his versatility by appearing in both Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, a feat he is particularly proud of.Martin appeared in the play Mothers Day at the Lyric theatre Hammersmith were he received favourable reviews from Michael Billington of the Times and Nicholas de jongh of the Evening Standard. He played the lead role of Benny. He is also soon to star in his first feature film (cherps by kolton lee) Martin has be been studying drama since his retirement in May 2003.His services to rugby were suitably rewarded when he received the MBE at Buckingham Palace in 1997. He has also been awarded an Honorary Fellowship at John Moores University in Liverpool, in recognition of his contribution to the game . Now that Martin has finally hung up his boots, he is focusing his efforts on djing,his son Tyler and various TV projects.In 2004, Martin was a contestant on the first series of the BBC1 Saturday Night Primetime show Strictly Come Dancing, where he got down to the final four celebrities, dancing with the worlds top Latin and Ballroom dancing champions.In 2005 he also co hosted strictly African Dancing with Natasha Kaplinski on BBC1. .............. Martin has a huge passion for house music, this along with a determination to succeed has created a skilled and natural mixer. His style of uplifting sexy electro house and high energy behind the decks delivers a fantastic atmosphere on the dance floor. The past year has seen Martin rise from Sports Celebrity and Rugby Legend to one of the most promising fresh new DJs around. His amazing enthusiasm on and off the decks have impressed numerous promoters and his biggest bookings to date have been the Azulu 1st birtday at (The Cross London) alongside Norman Jay and (Miss Moneypennys Birmingham). Martins passion shines through in his fantastic sets which is helping to build one of Londons newest and coolest fun parties "AV A DAY OFF" were he is resident and co-promoter.If this is the future of the London clubbing scene then we are in very safe hands.
