With over 2 decades as a a pro DJ, Dominic Spreadlove has achieved so much so much in his chosen profession!
Partly responsible for a the birth of a genre of popular dance music (UKgarage), as well as remixes for A list artists like Gorge Michael and documentaries on prime time BBCTV, Dominic has accomplished plenty in his field.
He started in the late eighties with residencies at seminal nights like Rage at Heaven, DJ’ing alongside the dons in the game, Fabio & Grooverider every week, & well before Drum n Bass even existed, Dominic built his reputation as a cutting edge underground DJ here, and was booked all over the UK & Europe of the back of his skills behind the decks.
The diversity of the music back then, allowed Dominic to be able to play across the board underground dance music, depending on the venue and country that he was booked.
out.ots in those days, working all over the place and was “DJ’ing with everyone from Carl Cox to Moby†he says.
Ultimately his musical passion was Deep House or Techno & in the early 90’s, he teamed up with the Public Demand label, and started a regular Sunday night club, called the Spreadlove Project (where he got his name) at the Gass in London’s west end which ran for 3 years with capacity crowds every single week.
This night was widely acclaimed, as the birthplace of the UK Garage sound, that later blew up in the national charts, with artists like Artful Dodger & Craig David.
By this time, Dominic had moved on musically back to his underground roots, and was to be found playing a deeper, more Soulful Underground sound, with a residency on Londons House88.6FM every Saturday afternoon.
He was also promoting parties all across the capital and running his own studio and production company in east London.
In 1999 he was booked to DJ in Siberia, USSR and as he was the 1st ever foreign DJ to play there.
The BBC filmed it and made a documentary about the whole trip, which was called ‘from Russia with Spreadlove’ and was aired several times on prime time BBC.
He was also helping his good friend and colleague, Mc Creed on ‘Fakin it’ on ch4 where he helped teach a lawyer to become a Garage MC.
Todday, Dominic is still playing underground music and working on various productions.
His latest project is his book called TeachMix. This is by far the simplest way to learn to DJ and is selling like hotcakes online on HYPERLINK "http://www.teachmix.co.uk" ,,www.teachmix.co.uk to over 26 countries so far on CD & Vinyl.
Fully endorsed by world No1 DJ Carl Cox, TeachMix will soon be implemented into the national curriculum in The DJ Association’s new QCA accredited DJ course, see www.DJA.com
‘We want to teach the World to mix’ is the company mission statement and Dominic is actively Teaching today from his home/office. His latest pupils are Anthony Hutton from Big Brother and CBBC’s presenter, Angelica Bell.
