About Me

I'm a music fanatic.

Outside of my close and important personal relationships, everything in my life revolves around music. I write & record original music and remix under the name Entropy ( click here to visit the Entropy MySpace page and hear brand new music ). Entropy's first official release will be an E.P. entitled Paradigm Shift, tentatively scheduled for release in mid to late 2007 (after I finish writing & recording some new songs I've decided to include). In addition to writing & recording original Entropy music, most recently I've created remixes for Liv-Diode, an up & coming EBM band from New Jersey.
I've remixed tracks by some notable power-noise, harsh-electro, goth and old-skool industrial bands such as Die Form, The Last Dance, N.T.T. (Navicon Torture Technologies) , Throbbing Gristle, The Filmstrip, Assemblage 23 and Cop Shoot Cop; all remixes will be available for download or your streaming pleasure/torture from the upcoming, official Entropy Webspace due to premiere in mid to late 2007.
I've been actively involved in Las Vegas' gothic & industrial subculture for the past 10 years and I've worked as a resident and/or regular guest DJ at almost every dark-music clubnight in Las Vegas since 1997. Most recently I've DJ'ed at:
Sanctuary (the new-skool version), currently active every Friday night at the Krave lounge on the Las Vegas Strip;
Paint It Black at the Icehouse in Downtown Las Vegas;
Sacrilege , a long-running goth/industrial/fetish event hosted by Dame Azriele;
Subversion , a recently closed event notable for high-energy DJ sets & live performances by top EBM & power-noise artists;
Magnetic Celadon , a groundbreaking monthly experimental & avant-garde arts event on hiatus.
I'm currently taking a break from DJ'ing and clubbing while I work on finishing the Entropy album but I hope to return to form in the Summer of 2007.
Rozz Williams R.I.P.: 1963-1998
Musician & artist, founding member of Christian Death, Shadow Project, Daucus Karota, Premature Ejaculation...
I was on the Convergence IX planning committee (as Band Liaison) and had the pleasure of bringing The Last Dance, Android Lust, Boole, Frankenstein and otherprominent goth, deathrock & dark-electronic bands to perform in Las Vegas in April 2003.
I'm originallyfrom Suffern, New York, a suburb of New York City in Rockland County about 30 miles northwest of the city, andI spent a good part of my life in New York City itself. New York is the greatest city in the world. I moved toLas Vegas with my girlfriend/muse Alexis on Tuesday October 24, 1995. I miss New York City and my family & friends so I've been back to visit 10 times in 11years.
Other random facts about me:
* I'm a private person who doesn't particularly care to deal with others but have to because of one of myoccupations (music teacher: piano, guitar and bass). My offtime is spent with my girlfriend or on music. I play5 instruments and program the hell out of a sixth.
* I read a lot, I'm of above average intelligence andkind of a snob. I believe you can tell a lot about a person based on their attitude towards the arts, music inparticular, and I've been fairly successful in customizing my relationships to that end.
* During the day Iwork as a "Construction Tax Analyst", a job which requires minimal contact with people and lots of time hunchedover a computer. Very cool!
* I hated cats until I got one for my girlfriend. Now I hate people who hatecats.
* I believe art is expression and exists only as a snapshot of the artist's worldview at the point ofits creation. I love artistic expression that challenges social convention and redefines that which theunenlightened masses accept as "normal".
* I believe in ghosts & other "unseen" beings and I've formulated ascientific theory for their existence.
* I think christians and mormons should be arrested for proselytizing(and I think it's funny that they've altered their public language and now refer to the practice as"witnessing". Whatever).
* Fuck it. Lock 'em all up anyway, just for fun.
* I have a problem with metalbands who appropriate the "goth" label for themselves. A black trenchcoat and membership in a pseudo-vampire"clan" does not a goth make.
* I dream of exploring the deep ocean abyss. I'm fascinated by the concept ofHell as a "real" place, complete with walls, borders and façades. The unexplored, deep ocean (I'm talkingMarianas Trench deep) is probably the closest place on earth to the Gates Of Hell.
* I dream of exploringhigher dimensions and time-space continuums and wish I had the mental & physical faculties to understand them.I hope I live long enough to see a workable, accurate and (gasp!) testable quantum theory of gravity and theresulting advances made towards a true, scientific understanding of the structure of physical reality (spaceis discrete, dammit!).
* I hope I live long enough to finally understand the General Theory ofRelativity and Quantum Mechanics. I have a basic, layman's understanding of the theories now, but noworries...towards the end of Richard Feynman's life, he admitted barely understanding them either. Maybe hisperturbation theory is applicable to education?
* I'm fascinated by objective representations of abstractconcepts. I love maps. I believe in the complete separation of church and state. I hateposeurs.

My Interests

My "General Interests": music and reading, my favorite books & the visual arts. An insight into what makes me the way I am. Or was. Or will be.

Music: writing, recording, arranging, performing, studying, teaching, discussing, arguing and listening (to more music, not necessarily listening to you).
* * * For those who are too impatient to read this & just want to see the bands I like, look down at the next section below this scroll box. * * *

(General Music Interests cont.):
Collecting music, especially vinyl. Attempting to complete my vinyl collections of particular bands (Coil, New Order, Death In June, Cabaret Voltaire, pre-1981 Genesis).

I like all music with very few exceptions. I can't stand 80's commercial metal (a.k.a. "hair metal") although I feel more pity than true hatred. Imagine having to go through the rest of yr life knowing that the world saw you trying to look like a gay poodle. And that doesn't even account for the sin of writing songs with titles like "Into the Night" or "Little Liar" or using the letter "z" to indicate plural nouns ("Boyz are Gonna Rock"!!!).

"New Country" music completely escapes me. I'm down with Bluegrass and old-school outlaws like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Hank Sr. & Jr. Even Hank Williams III kicks ass. I've given "new" country a chance, I've tried to embrace it, mostly so I'd have something to talk about with some of my less enlightened, neo-Conservative, xenophobic, Fox-News loving co-workers.
I'm sorry, but I believe that elitism and artistic appreciation go hand in hand. And "new" country music just, well, sucks ass.

Reading: physics, linguistics, fin-de-siecle, semiotics, music history, quantum mechanics, chaos magick, Symbolists, sociology, chaos theory, art criticism, 20th century occult sciences & occulture. Trying to formulate my layman's understanding of the above into a cohesive worldview.

I love to read and I'm constantly frustrated by the disdain most people have towards reading. The average American's apathy towards reading and education in general will be the ultimate downfall of this country.

The Books section further down this page is fucked up and I don't know why. So here's a partial list of books that have had a significant impact on me: Gödel, Escher, Bach. 2001/2010/2061/3001 (Arthur C. Clarke). The Artful Universe. Chaos. The Power of Babel. Three Roads to Quantum Gravity. Apocalypse Culture (volumes one & two). Diary Of a Drug Fiend. The Torture Garden (the decadent French Romantic novel by Mirabeau...not the picture book of the British fetish club. Although that book is very enlightening as well). Crash. In Defense of Elitism. Junkie. Liber Null & Psychonaut. A Season In Hell. The Primary Colors: Three Essays (an art history/sociology book, not the pseudo-political critique of Clinton by "Anonymous"). Why I Am Not a Christian. Vamps & Tramps...there's many more books I could list but that would just be showing off. If you're an ignoramus, you'd probably consider it flashing my "nerd card".

By the way, Anne Rice is way overrated.

Visual Arts: Francis Bacon, Marcel Duchamp, Ad Reinhardt, German Expressionism, Modernist architecture, H.R. Giger, Giorgio De Chirico, Abstract Expressionism, Futurism, Rene Magritte, J.K. Potter, Doug Jablin , Symbolism, Wayne Barlowe, Seth Zimiles, Joe Coleman, Picasso, Jasper Johns, Joan Miro, Jackson Pollock, Hieronymous Bosch, Laser Vida, Mike Pouncy , William Spataro, and any artist that pushes the envelope and explores the boundaries of what mainstream society considers "normal".

I'd like to meet:

...and...

also: David Bowie. John Lennon. Pablo Picasso. David Tibet. Octave Mirabeau. Michel Foucault. Geddy Lee. Rozz Williams. Austin Osman Spare. Jimmy Page. Martin Luther. Bertrand Russell. William S. Burroughs. Paul Verlaine. Arthur C. Clarke. Aleister Crowley. Francis Bacon. John Balance & Peter Christopherson. Genesis P-Orridge. Gene Simmons. Joe Coleman. Half of 'em are dead. That's ok.

Music:

I've been buying music since 2nd grade and I've worked my way through a lot of different obsessions. The following are, in my opinion, bands/musicians whose work is exceptional & worthy of praise:

Joy Division, Christian Death, Led Zeppelin, Coil, Cabaret Voltaire, Tool, David Bowie, Current 93, Shadow Project, Throbbing Gristle, Slayer, This Morn' Omina, Imminent, Aphex Twin, Glenn Branca, Genesis (Abacab [1981] and earlier), The Butthole Surfers, Stereolab, Rush, Wire, Death In June, TV Clinic, N.T.T. (Navicon Torture Technologies) , Sol Invictus, Archon Satani, Lustmord, Suicide, Sonic Youth, The Misfits, Synapscape, The Third Eye Foundation, Muslimgauze, New Order, Eva O, Charles Ives, Windsor Hollow, Android Lust, Korpses Katatonik, Big Black, Celtic Frost (Into The Pandemonium [1987] and earlier), Ain Soph, League Of The Banned, The Residents, Orphx, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Schloss Tegal, Megaptera, Minor Threat, Yen Pox, X-Mal Deutschland, Skinny Puppy, Holocaust Theory, Godflesh, King Crimson, Tuxedomoon, Foetus, Sixth Comm/Mother Destruction, EAP (Etruscan Army Project), Converter, The Legendary Pink Dots, Zero Kama, The Cure, Philip Glass, Swans, Clinic, Bauhaus, Genocide Organ, Tiger Lillies, PiL, While Angels Watch, The Hafler Trio, Hocico, Chrome, Die Form, U2, Killing Joke, Gentle Giant, Einsturzende Neubauten, Chopin, Dead Can Dance, Sleep Chamber, Feindflug, Art Bears, Diamanda Galas, The Smiths, Kraftwerk, Mercyful Fate, Interpol, Fischerspooner, Merzbow, Pavement, Agnostic Front, Cop Shoot Cop, Terrorfakt, Samhain...

I could keep going but that would be boring. I'll get back to you later. Really, I promise.

Bands I've Been In Burn, Hateful Snake, Blue Coral, Stentorian, Equilibrium, Private Property, EAP/Etruscan Army Project, What?, Windsor Hollow, League Of The Banned, Genepool, The Filmstrip, Entropy.

Movies I Like The Exorcist, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Hellraiser, Dog Day Afternoon, The Matrix, The French Connection, Jacob's Ladder, Evil Dead, Silence Of the Lambs, Phantasm, Memento, The Prophecy, King Of New York, The Warriors, Seven, American Beauty, way too many to list.

TV Shows I Can Deal With I don't really like TV all that much but I watch more now that my girlfriend and I live together. Sometimes I'll watch the three CSI shows and all of the Law & Order variations; Late Night with Conan O'Brien; HBO has done a decent job with original content...current or former HBO shows I like: The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Big Love and Carnivale; fucking American Idol (a very guilty pleasure...at least it's somewhat, kind of music-based...don't make me defend myself...I'm weak...I need food...); Nova, Scientific American, National Geographic Explorer and McLaughlin Group, all on PBS.
Occasionally, for a laugh, I'll watch one of the Christian networks. There's nothing like Jan Crouch's "hair" to slap you out of a depressive funk. Now THAT'S comedy.

Did I mention that Anne Rice is overrated?
