David Lynch is my favorite, umm.. Pulanski and Fellini were great and Kubrick of course ingmar bergman CIAO! MANHATTAN Any movie has the potential to be good depending on what angle you look at it from. I love films on many different levels. Some films have intricate plots, some have wonderfully developed characters, some have beautiful camera work, some have profound meaning and a plentiful stock of symbolism, some engineer humor as a fuel to keep the storyline moving along, while some just show the marvel of modernpyrotechnics. My favorite movie of all time would have to be 2001: a space oddysey, for all the reasons people love it and more: the metaphors for evolution present, the dark humor, the timelessness of it (even today it rings true) as well as the ground the film broke.
