Dead Souls Rising was formed in the early 90s by Alastrelle (vocals) and Sebastien (guitar). They released together a 5 tracks demo tape in 1993, and the full-length album Ars Magica followed in 1995. During the recording session of their second album Scented Garden in 1997, Laurent (violin) joined them. In 1999 they released the 2cds-album Clepsydre which contains numerous live tracks, but also their remastered demo tracks and exclusive songs. After some member changes, the current line-up is : Alastrelle on vocals, Laurent on violin, Renfield on guitar and Sand on bass. Dead Souls Rising did also a cover of Enjoy the silence of Depeche Mode on the French tribute album "Children of Depeche Mode"
The music of Dead Souls Rising is based on gothic rock but includes also neoclassical and industrial elements. Alastrelles voice is often compared to the one of Siouxie, or Nina Hagen, Kate Bush, and also Diamond Galas, depending on the songs and their influences. The band played concerts in various places in France and other parts of Europe (England, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Netherlands, ...)
