Los Angeles, CA – Produced by Clear Pictures Films, “The future is as far away as home†is a prominent theme in writer/director Susan Turley’s (The M.O. of M.I., Ardustry Entertainment, 2004) latest feature film Changing Spots where sometimes something as simple as going home can be the hardest thing to do.
Former TV child star Molly Brite’s world is about to unravel. Her partner’s pregnancy is in jeopardy, her daily intake of martinis is on the rise and the only acting gig she can land involves a chicken suit. When news of her cousin’s wedding forces her to return to her childhood home, she must confront her estranged father and a past she thought was buried.
Executive Producer, Cynthia Rush believes the past successes of gay and lesbian films have shown there is a real desire for quality storytelling. Says Rush, “Blockbuster hits such as Brokeback Mountain have kicked off a long-overdue trend of films showcasing complex gay characters.†Lane West, Producer and Star of the film, concurs. “This is an exciting time for gay and lesbian films that explore themes not necessarily specific to sexual orientation but have universal appeal everyone can relate to, regardless of genre.†Indeed, some of the movie’s themes such as family unrest, broken relationships and letting go of the past are issues that resonate with many people. Changing Spots tells an honest story of a strained parent-child relationship, small-town skeletons and what happens when communication breaks down between flawed people who are crazy about each other but just can’t get it right.
Starring Lane West as the haunted former child star Molly Brite, Danielle Egnew as her disillusioned rock-star partner Peg Franklin, and Larrs Jackson as Molly’s confrontational-phobic father Jim Brite, Changing Spots artfully delivers to the gay community, real characters whose complex humanity trumps their mere sexuality.
