Music for People Who Eat Planes

About Me

Formed in London, 1999, Silver Springs started out as a duo consisting of John and Amos, friends who shared the same eclectic taste in music. Early home recordings linked hip hop beatsto guitar drone, but it wasn’t until our first gig in 2000 when we improvised a 35 minute set ofacoustic-electronica that we knew we had stumbled upon something special...
Fuelled by this gig, we expanded to a trio with the addition of a kindred spirit in Rob, and senttapes to our local indie label Dreamy Records ,who released our haunting “Toledo” on the “A Wish on a Star” compilation in 2001. Singled out forits individual sound, “Toledo” captured the attention of PennyblackMusic who described the vocalist as “totally uninhibited,” continuing that, John “sings hisheart out like no one else is listening.”
With notable gigs supporting Hawksley Workman at Rough Trade Records RoTa night, and the 12Bar Club with fellow peers from Dreamy Records ( James William Hindle , Tanakh & Six Organs of Admittance ), word spread ofus to the eccentric Victory Garden Records who released "The Late Silver Springs" mini albumon their imprint S.O.U.L. (Sides of Unequal Length) in early 2004.
Inbetween these releases, filmmaker and Silver Springs fan, Paul Kemble approached us after agig to provide the soundtrack to his film “Without the Chainsaw.” This ultimately led to our firstmusic video, “No Horizon.” Shot on 35mm film and DV, the memorable promo features usattempting to make the music video under strained relations…
..
Once completed, work commenced on Kemble’s next proposal, a Silver Springs rockumentary. The longterm project has so far captured our live Resonance FM radio session, an assortment ofdramatic live shows and Amos locking the band out of our rehearsal space.
Katie (from tompaulin) joined us in early 2004 on bass and guitar, tidying up the logisticalnightmares we'd had onstage prior to that (anyone who remembers us supporting Special Needs (Hi Zac!!) can vouch for that!).
We also have a theory that any band that plays with us goes onto to do bigger things. So farwe've spread good vibes to hot chip , Vincent Vincent and the Villains , TheBishops, Cove, air formation , Thread, The Tamborines , Lucky Soul (we saw them on Newsroom South East), homescience , The Loft (well, they reformed I guess. That one wasn't entirely down to us - an exception to the rule - but we helped. Probably.)
Anyway.....we continued to play as a four piece up until last year when Chris (from Lake Davies)joined us on guitar, theremin and keyboards.
This is our classic lineup!
In our spare time, we like to keep ourselves busy:
Rob composes ZX Spectrum dance music as “doglobster”, John has recorded three albums as“Long Johnny Silver” and contributed to the “Get Thee Behind Me Santa” compilation on Spinmaster Plantpot 's Puppydog Records, whileAmos is active in electric assembly and fanfarlo .
Enjoy!
