DEAD END KIDS
What began with chance friendship of local teens from Staten Island, NY, has evolved into the hip-hop
phenomenon now known as the Dead End Kids. Comprised of MCs Dan Bangz and Mike Krisp, the DEK was formed in the
summer of 2000.The raw writing talent of a 16 yr old Dan Bangz was enough to inspire fellow members to pick up the
microphone, with sights set on transforming Hip-Hop from hobby to craft. 6 years later, the buzz surrounding the group
is as audible as the message delivered with each rhyme.Formerly known to close friends as "Costra Fam", "Dead End Kids" has become a more appropriate title. Initially, the tracks were written and produced for the ears of few. It has become evident that the concept behind the name
is relative to many more people than was first imagined. The DEKs do not only include a select class of friends, but
rather anyone and everyone that has reached the breaking point. A person who has the drive to succeed, someone who aims
to better himself, but often is met with fustration, ridicule, setbacks, and failure?..Not so fast.."If money brings evil then what is a friend? If success brings happiness then what is a sin?
If a pictures worth a thousand words, what is a pen? If your life stopped now, where would you end?"
- Dan Bangz, "Sooner or Later"The Dead End Kids have recieved many accolades in their still youthful careers. Danny Bangz inked an independent deal
with Untouchable Clique Records out of Ohio. This lead to the release of the Sound the Alarm mixtape. Also, Bangz was acknowledged
by Digital Syndicate for his internet single "Just Us Two" totaling over 100,000 DLs. With airplay from radio station Z100 in NY
the group realized that the material was relevant to the masses. With many close associates migrating from California and Boston, and the music
has reached both coasts, with fans springing up across the map.The DEKs are inspired by a long list of musicians from the Hip-Hop genre as well as Jazz, Rock, and Italian music.
However, the music they create is modeled after no MC. What is certain, is that the product is totally original and far from anything that exists
in the music world. Bangz speaks on the struggles of everyday life while celebrating the triumphs. He details past
tragedy, but not without remembering the good old days. He narrates stories of love and betrayal while telling his
own story through soul searching lyrics. Krisp cites the past as if it were yesterday, with a blurry vision of the future.
He raps about knowing right from wrong and the pressure of the choice. He pokes fun at the patterns that have developed
in hip-hop, and lashes out at artists that are a copy of a copy of a copy..Both speak from the heart, possess
the lyrics that will humble oppostion, and move the crowd.
Both tell of reality while living for the dream.
"Does anybody wanna throw in their two cents? Decipher my rhymes, tell me what I meant...Is there anybody out there that
could help my career? Suggestions or advice, maybe Im not being real."
- Dan Bangz, "Is There Anybody Out There?"Straight from Staten Island, the DEK rep the borough. Perhaps, the challenge of winning over the locals was the hardest
obstacle of all. The seemingly well-to-do neighborhoods of SI often have outsiders believing that Staten Izzle is
all peaches n cream. To sum it up..Rich, middle class or no class..Cut-throat enemies and girls that deep-throat. Whats not to love? Drama
arises, rumors spread, word of mouth is the best promotion. The origin of The DEKs in SI,NY alone gives the music
authenticity. At the end of the day, each member of the crew is an approachable personality, looking to find the positive
in the next guy. For this reason, the DEKs have worked with many producers from across the country and collabed with MCs, local and otherwise, always looking for
exposure and to hear what else is out there.
"Show me a promoter that aint a joker, dont feed me lines and pay me whats mine."
- Mike Krisp, Rumors freestyleThe Dead End Kids are business-minded. They seek airplay to reach the masses. Catchy hooks and beats have sparked the interest of DJs and fans alike, while the DEK
remain true to their own personalities. They have been learning the workings of the music industry with each and every shady executive that has surfaced with hands out.
The Dead End Kids have never been content with the current state of their music careers. Till this day, The Dead End Kids remain an UNSIGNED commodity with a desire to one
day have that record up at the store. Hit the D.E.K..."Haters hope they ready and tough, cuz we all we got and there's plenty of us."
