About Me
It was 1987 when two Los Angeles natives....Eric Fermin & Scott Allen formed RED TAPE, a San Diego ’Industrial’ niteclub near SDSU. Contributors to RED TAPE’S 3-year Saturday night development and reign included: Eddie and Beth Veddar (Pearl Jam ), Bryan Pollard, Tim Hall, Greg, and others. While Scott dj’d upstairs, up-and-coming bands (at that time) such as Tool, Machines Of Love And Grace, Bad Radio (Eddie Veddars first band ), Pearl Jam (in their beginning) & others premiered their talents downstairs. Performers such as Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Gary McDowell (Modern English), Angelo Moore (Fishbone), and the Mighty Lemondrops appeared unexpectedly on various occasions at RED TAPE, stepping in to play guest spots with the line-up. It was San Diego’s Whiskey-A-Go-Go, a perfect setting for some of SDSU’s thriving artists, and a home to many ’Industrial’ diehards. Primetime vinyl classics heard there & played by Scott included Shriekback, Gang Of Four, Yello, Love And Rockets, Nitzer Ebb, WAXTRAX artists, plus 8 packed crates of other 12" vinyl.Around the timeframe of RED TAPE’S 1991 closure, underground promoters such as KIMBIRD, PAUL Parente, Nicholas & Brandon, Francesca, Bazooka Joe, and Underhill Sound (Mark Underhill) sprouted up to bring the San Diego ’house’ music movement to life. Scott still considers ’OPIUM’ , with DJ Doc Martin, to be one of his favorites. At OPIUM, ’Doc’ used trademark techniques in his OPIUM set which would influence many forthcoming dj’s and much vinyl production. The ’WORLD BEAT CENTER’ was also a hotspot for Scott and friend Grant to watch djs like Garth, Jeno, Doc, Mark Farina, Sotero....or @ MICRORAVEZ dancing to Dale Charles, Daemon, Jon Bishop, and Mark E-Quark. ’MINDBRIDGE’ also came along. Jon Williams headlined it. A few lucky people will tell the story....those that boarded the mini-boat shuttles to some castle-like replica..on a barge!.. in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! Unbelievable!! But true, according to Scott and the few (200-250) that attended.Scott’s residencies & one-time appearances as a ’house’ dj began around 1991, and include: HALLORENA @ S.D. Sports Arena, PLAYSKOOL, TIC TOC Events, TAXXI ( with Tim Ortiz ), MALLORCA, OLE MADRID downstairs, a few 4th of July parties, and a handful of random afterparties. At the peak of these events, talent scouter Haig John discovered Scott and handed him a set @ SHARKY’S in Panama City, Florida. Thereafter from 1993-2001, Scott worked closely with Haig, Denver promoter Todd Davis, and San Diego promoter Mike Augins to put on Panama City house-music events. The change of culture, yearly visits, and successful response inspired Scott to experience life outside native California. At the point of establishing Florida residency in 1997, Scott spun @ CLUB LA VELA, CLUB SPINNAKER....and proceeding afterhour venues like G-SPOT, PINK HOUSE, and BEDLAM (with Robert Tauffer). There in Panama City, he met his now wife, Ann. They packed up for Michigan in 2001, and married each other in May of 2005. He performs at every opportunity....at places such as TEMPLE CLUB (Lansing, Michigan) and NECTO (rated in top 10 U.S. clubs - Ann Arbor). It all began with his father. Scott was always fascinated with how his father worked for and was close friends with Frank Sinatra, Keely Smith, Tim Conway, Red Skelton, Steve McQueen, Joanne Woodward, Jack Elam, Ryan O’neill, Lawrence Welk, and many others....The energy of entertainment, combined with Scott’s uncle Brian letting Scott play his Doors 45’s..music & entertainment became one. But foremost!, Scott proudly boasts his brother Jim’s talents. "Jimmy", in Scott’s unbias opinion, is "hands-down" the best bass player to be witnessed....and has been influenced by only the ’best’..in Scott’s words. As a dj, Scott’s main focus is to unify crowds through his musical vision. Scott is and has always been driven by his gratification to be able to speak the language of music, and has managed to keep his talents humble.
