About Me

Sister Flo is a group from southern Finland, gathered together to realise their ambitions: writing songs and playing them to other people. The group consists of Samae Koskinen, Mikko Salonen, Antti Kaistinen, Jarno Alho and Janne Lastumaki.
Their debut long player, released in October 2001, was called "Boys of Cat". It was released through their own label, Han Soo Voice. The critics in Finland loved the album; it was praised in reviews in all of the major finnish music papers and it had good airplay on national radio stations. Although the music unfortunately didn't reach too far outside of Finland, enquiring pop fans from around the globe (Sweden, France, UK, North & South America etc.) were impressed with what they heard.
After the release of the album the band gigged around Finland and made many new friends. "Boys of Cat" was sold out in five months.
In October 2002 they released a five song EP called "Landcrabs". The EP introduced some new sounds from Sister Flo, from the warm and pacey psychedelia of "Magic" to the gentle melodicity of lead track "Honey Lust". The EP was warmly received by finnish radio and was sold out pretty quickly. The band played various gigs for the EP, including Fritz's Corner in Stockholm, Club Fandango in London and finnish indie-festivals like Jyrock, Aistifestivaali and Tulvafest.
Sister Flo released an EP called 'Proper Kites' on 30th of June 2004 through Delphic Recordings. They worked with producers Riku Mattila, Nick Triani and Jyrki Tuovinen to record a bunch of songs that eventually became the EP and their second full length album entitled 'Tragician's Hat', released on 15th of September 2004. The album has had fantastic response from the media so far. 'Tragician's Hat' was the runner-up for the best album of 2004 according to Finland premier rock magazine Rumba's critics. The band also played in major festivals in scandinavia, for example Spot, By:larm, Provinssirock and Ilosaarirock.
Sister Flo write atmospheric and melodic songs with much in common with the pop classicism of The Beach Boys or Love, but deliver them in an energetic fashion, often ending up in a musical world shared with the likes of The Velvet Underground, Neu! or The Buzzcocks. The clash of different genres and styles of music within the group is most evident in the band's live shows. You in the audience - and often the band themselves - might never know what the warm and tender melody heard just moments ago will transform into by the song's finale.
Ever since Sister Flo began in 1999, the band's sound has been put together with traditional pop instruments, but at the heart of Sister Flo is an eagerness to experiment with moods and melodies - a quality which has already gained the attention of music enthusiasts around the world.
Sister Flo will release their third album entitled 'The Healer' on Fullsteam Records on 11th of April 2007. The first single, 'Hyvinkää' is released on 28th of May. You can order them from Fullsteam Records Shop or Platta .
