Solecism

About Me

The newest addition to the burgeoning Hyde Park (Chicago) underground metal scene, Solecism fuses elements of melodic, progressive, and technical death metal, black metal, doom metal, and others. Combining these diverse influences in a form that is somehow coherent and intuitive, Solecism's music strives to be technical but not showy, melodic but not compromising, progressive but not cerebral. In short, we hope you encounter something not quite like anything you've ever heard.
Solecism began with brothers Allen (guitar, vocals) and Scott (drums) Nelson in the summer of 2004, and later included guitarist Aaron Avellone and bassist Ralph Patrello, who stayed long enough to play our first show and was followed by Nick McMaster (of Astomatous fame). In the spring of 2007, Aaron parted ways with the band in order to focus on his schoolwork. At the end of the summer, Solecism also parted ways with Nick, who left to return home to New York City after graduating. Fortunately, Nick was able to record the bass parts for the upcoming EP, which is tentatively entitled Eos.
After nearly 6 months without a second guitarist, Solecism has finally found a tentative replacement, who's only 16 but is learning the songs at an impressive rate. We're also in the process of interviewing bassists, and those interested are welcome to contact us.
Currently we are dividing our time between training newcomers and overseeing the mixing of the EP, which has been recorded by producer Scott Oldaker at the highly recommended Say It Again Studios in Homewood, IL. We are hoping for a November release.
