My name is Michael David Rann (born 1953), an Australian politician, I am also the Premier of South Australia. I am the parliamentary leader of the South Australian State Labor Party, and the member for the seat of Ramsay.
I was born in Sidcup, Kent, United Kingdom, to working-class parents who emigrated to New Zealand in 1962. I completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts (Political Studies) at the University of Auckland. While in New Zealand I was prominent in the campaign against French nuclear testing in the Pacific Ocean.
I was a political journalist for the now defunct New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation until 1977 when I moved to Adelaide and became press secretary and speech writer for the then Premier, Don Dunstan.
In 1985, I was elected to Parliament as the Member for Briggs and in December 1989 became Minister for Employment and Further Education, Minister of Youth Affairs, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Minister assisting in Ethnic Affairs. After a cabinet reshuffle, I became Minister for Business and Regional Development, Minister of Tourism and Minister of State Services in September 1992.
When Labor lost government in December 1993, I was elected Deputy Leader of the Opposition and subsequently became leader in September 1994. I achieved a 9.4% swing to Labor in the 1997 election, but narrowly failed to win government. I remained Leader of the Opposition until the 2001 election, at which I won enough seats to form a government with the support of an independent MP, Peter Lewis

South Australias Strategic Plan is about improving the well being and prosperity of South Australians. Its about working together to shape a future for our state built on innovation, strong communities, environmental sustainability and opportunity for all.

Over the next 10 years the Strategic Plan aims to reach 84 measurable targets. Some have already been achieved, while others will require many years of focused attention. No matter what, each target is important and will help ensure that our children have a better future. Here are the six interrelated objectives: growing prosperity, improving wellbeing, attaining, sustainability, fostering creativity, building communities, expanding opportunity.

Every Thursday night @ 6pm on RADIO ADELAIDE 101.5 FM
The Howard Governments radical WorkChoices industrial relations agenda will hurt the quality of life of millions of Australians. Time with family will be slashed as workers are forced to trade off take home pay, and conditions like public holidays, simply to maintain their jobs.

Many people are confused about how the Governments industrial relations changes will affect them. Your Rights at Work is a community campaign run by the ACTU. This website allows people to find out about the Governments plans, and vitally take the necessary action to help protect their rights at work.
