The songwriter, Michi Wiancko, is well known to many in the Classical World as a professional concert violinist. Raised in Orange County, California, she moved east to study at Juilliard, and is now based in Brooklyn, New York. Michi spends her spare time using violin, voice, toy instruments and computer to create dark, lyrical, melodic, trip-pop songs under the name Kono Michi (which means "This Path" in Japanese).
Since graduating from Juilliard in 2002, Michi Wiancko has appeared as soloist with the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonics, performed solo recitals nationwide, and has toured with the Los Angeles Piano Quartet, East Coast Chamber Orchestra, and Musicians from Marlboro amongst others. Her live appearances have included Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, Banff Center and Sydney Opera House.
Although she first began playing classical violin as a three year old, Michi has an eclectic musical taste which includes Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Dolly Parton and The Cocteau Twins. She delights in spending as much of her spare time as possible recording and producing her songs and playing them live with assorted friends in venues throughout New York City. Michi recently had the pleasure of performing two of her Death Haiku songs with Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble to a theatre in Rhode Island.
