In My Head is the project Jim Allen Day has been putting off for years while playing with Standing Flat, May Day, Mr. Jones and many other bands in the Ark-La-Tex area. With the passing of his mom Rosie Day in 2005, Jim decided the introspective project was long overdue. Jim started writing material for In My Head in 2006 and worked on demos at Kyle Stroud’s studio in Longview, Texas. Former band mate from Yank My Jane and Days On End Trey Weingberg came aboard to handle the drums and build from the demos. Most of Jim’s past material had been music for the masses but his latest songs were more personal with sparse arrangements that brought out the mood. In My Head was recorded in Nash, Texas at Smart Studios with Frank Pryor mixing and helping Jim with the production. Frank shared Jim’s ideas for sparse arrangements and synthetic sounds that helped push the project forward. The trio worked on five songs recorded in a couple of days in December 2007. The first of 2008 was spent putting the next 5 together and then recording them in February. Kyle Stroud who helped Jim with his initial demos came in from Dallas to play Sax on ‘That Way’ and help with production. Former Yank My Jane and Cartoon Logic band mate Mike Forbus added guitar counter melodies to five tracks. The ten tracks have drawn comparisons to Jim’s influences like The Police, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Joe Jackson and Steely Dan but the bottom line is this is the project has been in Jim’s head for many years.
