♥I really enjoy working out and staying as fit as possible (helps me mentally and physically...but its all about the balance). I like to vary my workouts which is a necessity because of the climate around here. In the summer, I am mostly on my blades...skating the trail between Pullman and Moscow. My PB is 45 (bookin!) minutes there and back (approx. 16 miles) but that was on a windless day which I have yet to encounter again, but I still go for it anyway! If it is under 100 degrees you may also see me running stairs in Martin Stadium....home of the mighty Cougs! (I almost passed out from heat stroke one day, so gotta keep the temp in mind). I also do pilates/yoga/step year round (on my lunch break and whenever else I can get to it). Oh, but let me clarify...I'm no health nut.....I do it for the 'high'...but you can give me a big 'ol juicy medium rare hunk of whatever, baked P with all the crap it has room for, followed up with a big ass glass of wine/beer, and maybe a stoggy to boot, jk on that one,...I'm not tryin' to die healthy!! But you cook, k? (I'll buy) ♥DANCE, DANCE, DANCE....love it with a passion!! I can still hang with the youngsters...(well, at least in my mind anyway...hopefully I'll never grow up :) ♥I like to read as much as I can get my hands on. When I fall into a good book I am the most content person on earth.....either fiction or non....if the story is good or it is teaching me something valuable....what else is there? ♥I'm pretty much a river rat....actually any beach on any water will do....but I'm kind of limited to the Snake River in these parts unless I'm traveling or something. ♥I love hanging out with friends, around the house, (the 'Wayward Adults' joint....ya'll know who you are....and you WILL bow down before the Trivial Pursuit Queen of the World!!) river, camping, hiking, on the slopes, at the club (esp. with my Kelly-Girl dancin' but (sad) not often enough!) 'whenever, wherever, whatever'....my true-blues love and accept me without judgement and always have my back....as I do theirs. ♥♥All of the above of course is an aside to being a mom (and taxi driver) to my very involved daughter and all her various school, athletics and social activites that keep me hoppin'... but still lovin' it all the same!
I'm cool with everyone except narcissists, ethnocentrists and haters. I'm into authentic people that feel deep but keep it in perspective. I've seen a lot of BS (I mean c'mon ya'll, be real already!)....however some of you are completely hysterical and have me laughing so hard my face hurts....love that!! I have also read some very thought-provoking and insightful commentary that gives me hope in my fellow humankind.....and the music/artist scene is incredible!! (and keeps me acting like a crack-head out here)....And... I'm all about that "Sweet Familiar"....(as my man Maxwell would say)! Peace & Love!
Wow...this one is so tough...so many songs have deeply touched my life in so many ways how would it even be possible to do any one of them or their genre justice? If it were up to me....I would make song and lyrical 'perception' as our 6th sense. I'm sure we all have it to some degree, some maybe more than others, but when it touches us in a meaningful way it imprints itself forever in our lives. You know when you hear an old song that can snap you straight back to the time in your life when it had significant meaning or memories attached? Is that not a sense like smell? (Whenever I smell Pierre Cardin cologne.....'my first love' comes to mind because I bought it for him...which (some of you may remember) was also a line in a song by Lionel R and Diana R. that has meaning to me because it was out at the time we were dating and when I hear it, guess who I think of and (I SWEAR) can smell next to me? (Antonio, I looked for you out here...you of all people would be proud I got here but I don't see you...shout out if you see this!) It is my heart-felt belief that music and song (especially the beat of a drum) are primal memories passed down to us; are an an expression of our genetic makeup and therefore necessary to our survival and are an integral expression of what it means to be human. (One tribe baby!! p) I've always wondered if it reminds us of our original memory of hearing/feeling our (birth) mother's heartbeat in the womb. ?? Okay, with that said....mostly in order but not necessarily by artist....R-n-B/Soul.....(that drum/bass thing again....moves me intensely)....my very first records at the age of 5 (for those of you saying 'what are records'?...please go to Google) were The Temptations and The Jackson 5...which is pretty impressive in that I lived in the deep south at the time (thanks mom and dad for being so cool and getting past the raised eyebrows). All the classics, but especially Marvin Gaye, Smokey, Ohio Players, Ojays, 5th Dimension, Roberta Flack, EWandF, Isley Brothers, Anita Baker, Peabo, Vanessa, Janet....okay this has to stop now because there are just too many I cannot bear to leave out. Currently, I am very into Maxwell, D'Angelo and anything Neo-Soul; Jill Scott...love her! And, OF COURSE SUNN m'Cheaux (Smartest Man in The Universe)!! I'll always cherish Ready for the World (for those of you that know....you know what memories they bring to mind!:-) And always...Prince (straight out GENIUS). Sade, Oh God and of course Luther Vandross (RIP). U2, amazing music, beautiful one-world-love...forever a fan!!70's/80's classic rock/pop...Steve Miller especially (pretty soulful, that man....and OH update 4/5/08...you just made my former father-in-law a member of the band...SWEET...I'll be seeing ya for real!!), Beatles, Carpenters, Jim Croce, Bread, Doobie Brothers, James Taylor, Eagles, Steely Dan, Moody Blues, AC/DC, Queen...okay, again I need to stop-you get the drift. (For my rocker roomie...she had me rockin' with the Scorpions, LZep, LynSkyn, and other's...total miracle worker, that one!)Rap/HH....love the originals....especially, of course, SHG, GMF, RDMC, BDK and always Dre, Snoop, Tupac, LL ..basically rap before commercialism and twistedness, but the main draw I have to rap, are the samples that bring me back to the day. If the riff can trigger a memory....I'm hooked!Country: Johnny Cash (lots of soul too, I think); Patsy Cline; Loretta Lynn, John Denver, Glenn Campbell, Dolly P, Alan Jackson (I have folks in his home town near Atlanta, GA. ) Bonnie Raitt,Shania Twain, Faith and her man Tim, on and on again...Gospel: (I'm not real religious, but I can be moved): Donnie McClurkin, Williams Bro's., Andre Crouch, CeCe...actually all the Winans, and many deep south baptist choirs I'm sure.... Today: Love Gwen Stefanie (I think she's an old soul in this world); the new Mariah is hot (the lyrics are esp. incredible and will leave many memories on this generation as they are falling in, or out of, love). I thought I would hate The Pussy Cat Dolls because of the name....but alas... love them too. Dave Mathews Band, Seal, Mary J....OMG, again have to stop. Too much out there!Okay, last but not least....have to give a shout out to Sonny Charles of the Checkmates and Sweet Louie who are consumate perfomers and entertainers and reigned supreme at number one on the charts back in the day (Black Pearl....precious little girl, let me put you up where you belong....and SC solo 'Put it in a Magazine') among others and are still making people remember Las Vegas the right way!! (Update 4/5/08...congrats on the Steve Miller gig pop!!!) I still have mad-love for ya pops, and Sarah, Trev, Sweet Louie (RIP Sweet Man 12/15/07, I'll always remember you), and of course J-n-J, and all the sisters/aunts/cousins....always in my heart forever, if you see this...tell 'em I said so!
Well now...this one is a little easier for me. I have a teenager...therefore she gets all my $ to go to the movies while I get the DVD version..at least someone has a life around here! My favorite movie of all time, which must be seen on the big screen for full effect, is The Color Purple (which was totally robbed by the academy, and I may never forgive them for that and I'm not buying their lame excuse of it being released too late, blah, blah, blah....grrrr). The very first movie I ever saw...'Willie Wonka and the Chocalate Factory' will always be a fav, not just because it was the first, and quite magical to me, but because my dear grandmother took my brother and I to see it (Amarillo, TX...near my birth place of Pampa in 1970....yep had to go to the 'big city" to see a flick...doh!). That woman is the greatest soul on the planet IMHO and from whom I inherit my strength. So...for what its worth, these are the movies that I will watch EVERY time I see them on 'basic cable' TV.... Officer and A Gentleman (I'm a military brat...so I get this one good), Urban Cowboy (also a Texas girl...get that too, plus I've been on the bull and have the video to prove it), Jaws (still scares the crap out of me....but still love the ocean), Wizard of Oz (duh..who doesn't love this one although those dang flyin' monkeys gave me nightmares forever so forward past those scenes for the wee-ones if you have 'em), Terms of Endearment (CH, I know its painful...but you need to watch it anyway someday...its powerful), Steel Magnolias (for the southern belles I know n' love), Bridges of Madison County (Meryl's just a fav in general), Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind (hey, it could happen...plus some one-thing needs to come down and save this planet before we self-destruct. I think the Creator wants to replace us with others that can keep their room clean and play nicely anyway), Summer Lovers (which is rarely on TV and not real well done either) but its really an interesting story and I think its Daryl H's first one and she is just pure in it, plus the location is so sweet...hoping to get there someday), The Deer Hunter (this one reminds me, again, why women should rule the world....whoever edited this movie though obviously could not bear to cut out any scenes....the weddling reception one... yikes! we get it already!) which also reminds me to say anything with Deniro or Pacino is most likely to be enjoyed by moi......okay I lied, this one is hard too because there are too many I might forget...movies are great, but books are better!
When do I have time to watch TV anymore? MyS is way more interesting...esp. when I can camp out on the music space and listen to songs I have not heard in TOO very long and check 'up-n-coming's'! . I still watch the morning news everday though...and I used to be hooked on Survivor and was dismayed somewhat to find out a new season had started while I was on here. Oh well, I got connections with TiVO if I need 'em or want 'em. I guess I had sorta become a 'reality' show junkie, but I may be over that now! My other favs: Discovery channel, some PBS when the cable is out, HGTV, Oprah, Dateline (sorry Tom, but you're just going chi-ching! on that hype anyway...you know you're lovin' that, plus they did us all a favor exposin' those pervs)! I tried watching the olympics when they were on....I turned them on loud while I was here on MyS so I could hear what was going on (when I didn't have the music turned up)....but I had to go watch some of it....that Apollo Ono...hmm, and I thought 'football pants' were nice....
Well now, I think I'll just spare us all and note some favorite authors. There are some wonderful books that I have read wherein I no longer recall who wrote them and most likely did not even take note, and that makes me sad now, but in any case here goes.... John Steinbeck ♥my no. 1...some of his literary observations *should* have been learned from our (US) 'his_story' books, Pat Conroy, Twain, Thoreau, Alex Haley, Ralph Ellison, Stephen King, Ann Rule (love true crime, plus her kids are Cougs!), Alice Walker, Farai Chideya (who was dead on in..'The Color of our Future'... it turns out, since I read her in '99)...and many, many, autobiographys...some famous, some not....but I think I enjoy them most because, 1) they're real (well mostly...that guy from Oprah...his message may be lost now, should I read his 'Million Little Pieces')? and 2) I get to learn from other people's mistakes which is the best way..... but mostly it's real historical recall, from real people, that put real events in (their) real perspective. Mostly every movie that I have seen that was based on a book.....well most likely I've read it already (and the book is always better.....but you know, that budget thing Hollywood has plus even though pictures are worth a thousand words, if you happen to look away....well...'nuff said). And last but not least...Dr. Seuss...he really knows how to get to a kid's heart and turn 'em on to reading!! Latest: Just read 'The Rose that Grew from Concrete', poems by Tupac Shakur...good stuff....''Written in his own hand at the age of nineteen, they embrace his spirit, his energy...and his ultimate message of hope''. That they do.... thanks Billy...good lookin out!!**The power of a gun can kill and the power of fire can burn the power of wind can chill and the power of the mind can learn the power of anger can rage inside until it tears u apart but the power of a Smile especially yours can heal a frozen heart** --Tupac Shakur
That would be my lovely daughter Alexandra. Not only is she a beautiful person externally, but most importantly she is one of those special souls that shines from the inside out. Her kindness and compassion for others has been evident from the very first time she had to share a toy or kiss a boo-boo for a friend. Her sensitivity and empathy for those around her sometimes leads to hurt feelings when not returned, but she recognizes that some people hurt in ways she'll never know or understand, so she loves them anyway! As much as I would like to take some credit for this...the real truth is she was just born a happy, easy going and thoughtful individual! And she is hilarious too!! She actually happened to be born on her due-date....which I believe is the last time she was on time for anything (sorry baby girl....but you know its true) but other than that she is her parent's dream child. Oh...did I mention she is an incredible athlete, makes almost straight A's in school and can sing and dance her tooshi off?? Can't forget that...... girl's got it goin' on!!! One last thing though...she informed me about this "my space" thing and being the prudent parent I hope I am I had to check it out, right?? So now I have to come up with ways to get her off so I can get on. Sick....is there a 12-step program for this? :-)
