Robert William Thompson was born in Chicago many years ago. At a young age he began playing Bass Guitar as a result of being inspired by Metallica great Cliff Burton. After several performances in high school talent shows he started becoming well known throughout the school. He attended University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and later went on to study composition with Steven Vasquez. Steven encouraged him to performed his original classical works in Chicago area recital halls . He was chosen to perform in master classes with many guitar greats including Mark Maxwell of Depaul University, Benjamin Verdery, and the Assad brothers. While studying with Vazquez, he served as an assistant conductor to Vazquez' guitar ensemble. As a classically trained guitar player, Rob brings a fascinating guitar element to his compositions.Soon after his study with Steve, he moved to the LA area to work in the video game industry where he received credits including Delta Force : Blackhawk Down, Monstrosity, and Moonlight Fables. While in the LA area he continued his classical guitar study with John Schneiderman, with whom he continued to excel to virtuoso status.
In recent years he has turned his attention toward film scoring and currently has many intriguing pieces in the works. Some of Rob's most prominent influences are Stravinsky, Vivaldi, and Brouwer.
