My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Maduro, Radiohead, Dmitri Shostakovich, Samuel Barber, Stellamara, Circus Contraption, Lumin, Niyaz, Vas, Elliot Smith, Flaming Lips, Gorillaz, Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan, Gotan Project, Kings of Convenience, Rasputina, Pentaphobe, Amon Tobin, Dj Cheb I Sabbah, The Toids, The Beatles, Raquy and the Cavemen, the Mezmer Society, Cat Power, Kaki King, Murcof, Morphine, Been prowling for good global beats since I started bellydancing. It kind of takes over.

Movies:

Good costume dramas, Oscar hopefuls, tongue in cheek kung fu, and those that rely on a fresh, excellent script (especially Charlie Kaufman)

Television:

I don't actually own one. People hear this and get these pitying expressions on their faces, and they try to foist one on me, at which point I run away.

Books:

Too many to name, but all time curl up with a glass of wine favorites include Gabriel Garcia Marquez--100 Years of Solitude; Complete Plays of William Shakespeare; Complete poems of Christopher Marlowe; and a bit of John Dunn when I'm feeling cheeky. Neil Gaiman, China Mieville and another rereading of Harry Potter for a quick escape.

Heroes:

All of the amazing women I get to work with.

Letter to an old lover.

Hi, babe.   Am sitting at my father's desk with a huge mug of soy chai with the sweat from my yoga class dried and cold on my skin.  I made the mistake of going to the bookstore when I was d...

Ghosts of myself

I was 21 when I lived in London for a year.  I had no hips and was still carrying around the last bit of baby fat in my cheeks.  I was wide-eyed.  I hadn't learned how to carry myself o...

You must be this tall to ride this spiritual journey.

When I was about sixth grade or so and going to middle school in Savannah, GA, my social studies teacher made us do a unit on the pilgrims.  She put us into groups and handed out a worksheet with...

Well that’s funny.

Individuals born on the cusp of Scorpio (the eighth Sign of the Zodiac) and Sagittarius (the ninth Sign of the Zodiac) are ruled by both Pluto...with a secondary influence afforded by Mars...and Jupit...

Public Service Announcement.

I forgot how much I hate being single while bellydancing.  It's not the being single part, it's the hassle you get from people assuming you're something you're not, and the scrutiny of a small to...

Clinging to the life raft.

I'm still wallowing around in some grief issues.  I've been weepy all day. I'm going to change my hair somehow.  I'm considering putting in extensions and possibly changing the color.&n...

House of the Spirits

My family keeps our family spirits close to us.  Perhaps too close sometimes.  One of my sisters sees shadowy figures on her ceiling that signal to her when life-changing events ar...
