Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu , Rock Climbing, World Travel, Guitar, Standup Comedy, Music...
I'd like to meet:
Anyone interested in either Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Comedy. Let's chat, you and I, eh? Chances of finding someone else like me who likes BOTH 1) telling jokes to strangers, AND 2) digging their knees into some guy's chest while choking him unconcious are probably slim to none. But if either of those things interest you - Hey, me too.
I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
Ich würde nur an einen Gott glauben, der zu tanzen verstünde. (I should only believe in a God that would know how to dance.)
- Friedrich Nietzsche
Other great people to meet would be anyone who wants to buy some T-shirts from my website, EsotericTees.com .
Music:
DREAM THEATER, Rhapsody, Alice in Chains, They Might Be Giants, Opeth, Stratovarius, Green Day, Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband, Our Lady Peace, Beethoven, Incubus, Tool, The White Stripes, Liquid Tension Experiment, Wagner, Béla Fleck, The Dandy Warhols, Phish, Korn, Iron Maiden (Bruce years), System of a Down, Within Temptation, The Bloodhound Gang...
Movies:
Tommy Boy; Le Fabuleux Déstin d’Amélie Poulain; Monty Python and the Holy Grail; UHF, O Brother, where art thou; Jerry Seinfeld: Comedian; Fight Club (really that’s a holdover from liking the book so much, but the movie is great in its own right); La Tour Montparnasse Infernale; The Pink Panther; We Were Soldiers; Stay (The film by Bobcat Goldthwait from the Sundance festival. Man, that was an awesome film. Artsy, but funny and poignant at the same time); Waiting for Guffman; Best in Show; A Mighty Wind.
Television:
Family Guy; Seinfeld; Smallville, Heroes. There are others that I like, but my TV at home only gets two channels, and I’m not interested enough about watching shows to merit buying cable/satellite.
Books:
Books are way better than movies or TV shows, since you get 7+ hours of entertainment for less than a movie ticket.
As for favorite books, one that's up there on the list is Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling. I loved it as a kid, and even now as an adult I enjoy reading it for the rhythm and beauty of the language. Plus there are, like, morals and stuff. Other favorites include: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card; anything Dave Barry; Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches by Marvin Harris; The Black Company series by Glen Cook; David Copperfield by Charles Dickens; those "Thomas Covenant" books; Chuck Palahniuk's stuff (Diary, Fight Club, Choke, Lullaby); How to Make Love like a Porn Star "by" Jenna Jameson (interesting look at the porn industry); Any Brazilian/Gracie Jiu-Jitsu book; How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. American Gods by Neil Gaiman...
There are bunches of others I could list, but you know how it is. Your favorite book depends on your mood when you're reading it, and your opinion can change over time as you think back to certain passages or plots that are more or less applicable as you tumble through your own life.
Heroes:
My Mom. Shes always been an inspiration in the way she always put family first. I remember when I was young and she was a single mom - even when she was managing a business and had to deal with clients all day, she always made sure that she was at home when we came home from school. She set aside time to talk to each kid individually about their day, what they learned, and if we needed anything. It wasnt until years later that I realized how much she had to juggle her schedule, and how late she had to work sometimes, just to be available at that one hour she considered was most crucial.
Also, one of my heroes is whoever invented the THERMOS. Oh yeah, you might disagree. You may say, "That's not so amazing. All it does is keep hot stuff hot and cold stuff cold." Yeah, but tell me this... HOW DOES IT KNOW?
