MUSIC FOR THE HEAD

About Me

Ralph Cedeno of Tweek'd USA & Scot Cox | Friday July 28th 2006 @ Rise
Being a house record label that produces a constant buzz in the industry that it serves is quite a task these days. And Tweek'd Records out of Cliffside Park NJ is doing just that. Tweek'd Records started out in 2004 and they have built a small yet solid back catalogue of house music. Comprising three labels (Tweek'd Records, Tweek'd Tunes, and Beatport exclusive label Tweek'd Digital), they are developing their own unique sound and reputation. While Tweek'd Records centers themselves on full-on tribal elements, Tweek'd Tunes plays more towards the big New York electro style, providing big drums, big synthesizers and big bass lines into each track.
Tweek'd was built from the ground up by Ralph Cedeno in conjunction with Andy Jusuf (Promotions & Licensing) Danny Woo (Promotions & Productions), Chris Staropoli aka That Kid Chris (Head A&R, Productions & Production Coordinator) and Alan Asusta of DJ Rooster & Sammy Peralta (Co A&R and Productions).
Their influences have come from the dance floors of New York City's now-defunct Twilo, Danny Tenaglia and his old stomping ground "Vinyl," Oscar G from Space-Miami, and Tom Stephan a.k.a. Superchumbo. With a DJ's mindset, they still test each upcoming release on the dance floor to continue a level of incredibly tight sound. The label's manifesto states that "The main idea behind the creation of Tweek'd was to bring the world a record label embodying a more global approach to house music while at the same time always providing a unique quality, variety and sound." "We know exactly what we are looking for, although at times it is a little hard to explain with the world's wide variety of styles today. We are looking for excellent sound quality, good artist-to-label relations and vice versa, and universal appeal and marketability."
Producers that have touched the Tweek'd label include Peter Bailey, Rick Pier O' Niel, Robbie Rivera, Saeed Younan, Ralphi Rosario, Armand Pena, John Creamer & Stephane K, Danny Buddah Morales, Austin Leeds and That Kid Chris just to name a few. Each producer brings their own flavor to the mix. With Rick Pier O'Niel's progressive style, Saeed Younan's underground touch, and Peter Bailey's years of experience, these producers have combined to make Tweek'd a leader in house music. Tracks like "Reflections" by That Kid Chris feat. Melanie S. showcase some of the record labels talent. Offering a deep, dark production filled with smokey beats and a bass line that entices you to smile. Halfway into the song with the bassline in full effect, Melanie Santiago's haunting vocals float over the track and bring you closer to her heart.
The next two upcoming tracks from Tweek'd are Seductive Beatz. feat. Gay Joy - "My Drug," and DJ Gio's "Tribal Sampler EP." With crisp tribal rhythms and a strong synth running along to the beat of "My Drug," it will hold you close to the speaker. M. Accorsi's original mix holds strong dark basslines that brings familiar feelings of the Stanton Warriors' Doom's Night. The dub brings the beat lovers their own cut of the action. With the release consisting of the original, the dub, and two remixes, there is plenty to offer the discerning DJ.
DJ Gio's "Tribal Sampler EP" brings four tracks of house bliss. "Funky Flute" starts off with the light touch of some very nice percussion. Moving along at a steady rate, the bass kicks in and takes you into a warm inviting atmosphere. "Funky Flute" would be at home in a opening DJ's record bag. "I feel the Rhythm" steps in as the strongest cut of the four, with chugging vocals that stab into the song. The build-up and breakdown of the song are simple, yet effective. "Bombo" is the third song, infused with a nice tech sound brought in for good measure. The kick drum brings the track into full force. "Sexxy" follows up the EP with a 7-minute cut that delivers a concentrated tribal effort that transports you to the land of paradise.
Tweek'd Records is not trying to reinvent house music, or anything of that nature. "When it comes to house music, it's been tried and tested. But if house music was an argument, we would definitely be looking to make our point." "As for what genre our music fits into, I am sure it could fit into many classifications of house music. This is definitely something we would like the listener to interpret on how the sounds that they are listening to impacts them, or how it applies to their lives," says Tweek'd owner Ralph Cedeno.
When asked what the future of the label holds, producer Kevin Maroda feels that "The future of the label is to continue the pursuit of excellence in house music." With Tweek'd Records you know that your going to get a solid production with a twist of tribal goodness on a global level. Receiving support from sites such as beatport.com, itunes and djdownload.com, the future looks good for Tweek'd. Some essential tunes include Kevin Maroda's "Tribal Fusion EP," Danny Morales "Stress," BPT "Moody," That Kid Chris "Reflections," and Pier Pressure "Want My Body."
Tweek'd Records will soon be launching an updated version of their website TWEEKD.COM version 2.0 geared to be a "center of information" for the Tweek'd imprint with cool new added features such as an mp3 shop, an online store (where they will sell their very own vinyl, CD's, t-shirts, slip mats, hats and more), audio and video galleries where one can stream the latest Tweek'd club footage and newest unreleased tracks.
