Every once in a while an artist comes along with a talent so unprecedented, it’s just a matter of time before the rest of us realize what many have said all along. Honing skills on the underground Hip Hop scene in Toronto for the past few years, Roger ‘Kash Diggity’ Brathwaite, is on the brink of disrupting the face of Hip Hop as we know it.IN DA BEGINNING……Born and raised in Scarborough to Bajan parents, Kash’s early rap influences came by way of his older brothers. The youngest of three boys, Kash was introduced to Hip Hop/Rap music from his older brothers. At the age of 15, Kash was introduced to “Southern†rap when one of his brothers brought home Master P's album ‘Ghetto D.’ Impressed by this savvy new sound and lyrical style, he traded his Notorious B.I.G’s (Biggie Smalls) album, Life after Death for Master P’s album.
In the late 1990s the influx of Southern Rap in Toronto had yet to take off. Having been influenced by this style of music that was less popular than what was being played on popular radio, Kash’s own burgeoning lyrical style was often criticized by his peers. Not willing to give into this form of peer pressure, Kash continued to hone his craft by studying the lyrical skills and production techniques of southern rap artists such as Cash Money Millionaires, and Three 6 Mafia.
MAD SKILLS AND MAD PROPS:In early 2002 the time had finally come for Kash to make his mark on the local Toronto Hip Hop scene. Partnering with another local Toronto artist and long time friend ‘E’, the two produced the compilation album ‘Underground Sounds.’ The album was heavily praised and generated buzz on the Hip Hop underground scene in Toronto. Soon thereafter, seeking to expand his musical repertoire Kash began working with long time friend Sunny Diamonds and three other friends. Together they formed a rap group and performed with notable artists such as Mobb Deep, as well as Young buck for a radio promo.Alright....
