Why this name?
"Growing up my family gave me the nickname Matcy "pronounced MOTCY" and my friends gave me the nickname paperboy because I used to always try to find a successful way to sell something or work extreme hours at a job to keep money. I was always on a hustle so I combined the two and came up with Matcy P."
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry? The internet broadens each Artists or Producers choice of people they want to work with, networking, and possibly their chance to become a huge success. Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
"It depends on the numbers and how long they would expect to keep me on the label.More than likely I would stay independent though. It's better that way, but harder."
Favorite spot?
"My favorite city is my birth city, Chicago,IL of course.That's where all my resources for music are, and that's where me and my family are from."

"FL Studio 7, Reason 4.0, Axiom 25 MIDI Controller, and a Numark TTIUSB Record Player.It all gets the job done for now.I'm currently saving up for the real deal.Once I get that it's a W......R......A.......P!!!!!!"
HOW IT ALL STARTED
Who said there weren't anymore innovative producers around these days? You certainly couldn't be talking about Hip Hop/Rap producer Matcy P!(b. July 10, 1988 in Chicago,IL) (Pronounced "Motcy P.") At the age of 17, this young, intelligent up and coming producer locked himself in the room for months to master a distinctive sound to distinguish himself from other producers. Matcy P never had the family that would buy him whatever he wanted, (which would have been a MPC 2500, Korg Triton, Mac G4, and a Pro Tools Digital Soundstation), so he downloaded an all in one production program called Fruity Loops 3 which is now FL Studio 7.
For Matcy P this program was very difficult to use and he almost gave up on it. After months of personal training, Matcy P was able to make clean sounding beats that didn't even sound like it came from Fruity Loops. Even until this day Matcy P says he finds out new things about the program still, and would like to tell other up and coming producers who don't have money for production equipment at the moment to practice and master the FL Studio software and then dig for your own sounds and samples to put into the soundpack folders. If you are trying to get serious with beat making, you must not use any sounds that came with FL Studio.Get clean crisp sounds.Matcy P is also a very helpful young man and answers any up and coming producers questions they may have for him. Even though he isn't a mainstream producer, Matcy P still gets emails full of questions on how to do certain things. If he knows he will help them right on the spot, and even speak to them directly over the phone. Another good thing about Matcy P is that he respects all established producers and up and coming producers. In an interview I had with Matcy P, he stated that he loves seeing up and coming producers working hard and presenting their skill in the right way. He also loves seeing established producers getting money because he knows what types of struggles they had to go through before their success came. "The Urban Music Industry is a very cut throat business" says Matcy P, "and if you don't read books and seek advice from professionals before you jump head first in it, it can get ugly." Now at the age of 19, Matcy P has his publishing taken care of and is now published by ASCAP, has his paperwork in order, has an entertainment lawyer, production equipment but still uses FL Studio, steady clientel, and most importantly, a nice community of fans.
