DJ SUNDANCE HOSTING THE DANCE ARENA @ 2006 SAS BALL FESTIVAL
I've been in the club scene professionally for about twelve years mainly as a dancer and promoter and I can remember putting on shows and thinking to myself this music is just not doing it for the clubbers
Even as dancers we would have a hard time keeping the energy going when the music wasn't inspiring. I would see people dancing to music they weren't really into but continued because of the named DJ playing and having to be seen as cool
Educating people with new music is a good thing but when its just non inspirational then whats the point?
It was this frustration that got me into DJing and choosing the kind of music that had the right vibe groove and melody that would give people what they truly wanted. The sort of music that would've had us, as dancers, full of energy. Coming from this back ground I knew exactly what it was I was looking for
Very quickly I was getting involved DJing in clubs through the contacts I'd built up through the years of dancing in clubs - then I started turning my attention to producing
I was very lucky in this area as my close friend Ian Widgery of ' Skynet ' fame and producer/remixer for EMI had a studio close to where I lived. I spent many hours and months with Ian in the studio where by he taught me so much about music technology that I owe him a great debt. Soon after I had my own purpose built studio
So far to date major record buyers are showing interest in my productions and this year has seen my first release 'We Believe'
The type of trance style I produce has a lot of tribal energy in it, as this is a background I worked in for many years as a dancer - I like the use of tribal rhythms in my material. But my love for trance and the club scene brought these two elements together
So this is my style, it's not entirely your typical trance genre but has a lot those elements in it - I hope you enjoy it
So, when I'm DJing, playing the right kind of music, showmanship, dancing and above all having fun all goes hand in hand. One without the other in my opinion doesn't work.
With this formula I feel good and that transpires itself to the dance floor and the people that are on it
The true release of spirit is through dance
To anyone who ever had an idea turned down;
who went back to the drawing board after being told
that it will never work;
who could so easily have given up, but kept persevering;
who knew that failure was just a part of the journey to success
A word of encouragement
Keep going. Keep going, for there's only one thing greater than an idea and that's a great idea
Do you believe in the power of dreams?
